Hi, Well Mr Quazi, In my opinion you have hit the nail squarly on the head with your last paragraph. A few years ago I went to the classic bike show in Stafford and the guy from Exhaustcraft had a stand there with a few systems on show. They were faultless, the guy could not have been more helpfull. How anybody can critersize without seeing his work begars belief.I know were I will be going when its time for an exhaust. I just hope the rest of the bike will come to the same standard.

If we listened to what people wanted our bikes to look like we would all be riding the same bike which would be boring

Absolutely concur with these posts. Dave is not only a genuine guy but a craftsman and lover of these old bikes/ My experience with Dave verges on the surreal. I got chatting to him on this site after contacting him about an exhaust for my bike after mistaking him for Racefit. I was looking for a system for my bike and Dave agreed to make one. As I live in Melbourne and postage of anything to here is usually expensive I jokingly suggested that Dave take a holiday and come over to watch the Philip Island International classic races and he could bring my system over with him as hand luggage. Cutting a long story short Dave decided to treat himself to a holiday, albeit after the PIICR as he reckoned he'd not had one for years, even decades. What he did next was astonishing and for me is one of those things that go down in bikelore. He shipped a whole load of Mandrel bent s/s tubing over here to Melbourne to a top bloke, Peter, who was doing fabrication work on my chassis. When Dave arrived here in Melbourne he went straight down to Peters and spent several days fabricating and fitting the exhaust system to my bike as seen below, an exhaust system to my specification with no qualms, no criticisms and a will do attitude. The end result is a credit to his skills and eye for detail. On top of that he became good friends with Peter and spent most of his holiday in Peters workshop helping him repair the XR 69 rep that Josh Brookes had trashed at the end of Gardner Straight Philip Island during the International Philip Island classic races. Dave being an expert aluminium weldor designed and fabricated an oil catch tank for the bike as the original was now just a twisted lump of alloy. A genuine guy and like others I would not hesitate in recomending Dave exhaustcraft to anyone that's looking for a quality exhaust system for their bike.

I was wondering myself how anyone would have the gall to criticise it,the welds may not be the neatest but they were done by hand and not machine. This man can MAKE exhausts, hell id like to see most people even bend one downpipe.Defo on my list if i need something copied in the future, nice work.

having made a few exhaust systems myself (for my own/my mates' bikes), I apprecate the work that goes into a good quality one like Dave makes.
AA+ would recommend.

I don't understand how any post on this topic can be interpreted as a non-constructive slagging of the pipe in question. The pipe looks very good. Presumably the bloke who asked for it wanted it made that way. If I thought it was shit, then I wouldn't have asked for a quote for one for my bike, would I? I need a very similar pipe making but the bend on that pipe wouldn't be right for my requirements. Presumably they are good for the owner of that machine. It seems that the words 'looks like the pipe may interfere with ground clearance' mutate between the computer screen and the retinas of some readers into 'that pipe is shit' judging by some of the comments above. Presumably whoever bought the exhaust in question wanted it that way, so fair enough. I've seen the stuff from exhaust craft at the Stafford Show too and think they are good, which is why I am interested in this topic and why I asked how much one would cost for my bike. If I thought they were shit, I wouldn't ask how much a similar pipe costs to have made. It seems that part of the post was ignored. If my words have pissed people off then I did not mean that, but it helps to not read between the lines people write for things that aren't there.

The Harris style is £520 ti £1000 Piper style £420 ti £800 price includes vat carriage extra
The owner wanted the exhaust exactly like it was made and was very happy when he arrived to take the bike home,he is a ex racer so the GSX will be lent over properly! so we will soon know if the bend in question rubs, don't think it will
I know everybody has an opinion, the welds are good,no idea why some folk think they need improved,I did a job for a local engineering firm in January,he wanted some tube expanded,I showed him some ti tube I had welded which was left over from the collectors that went to Australia for 4 Hondxs,he thought the tube had been machine welded,he was impressed I had welded the tube by hand on the bench,he is a coded welder tested every six months by Lloyd's,he knows what he is looking at,all I am interested in is customer satisfaction every time
Cheers Dave

If his next holiday is on the Isle of Man, I might have a job for him. Wait, he's coming to the Baltics first. We have excellent beer. You can make turbo headers Dave?

OK, no problems all round, peace made etc. 520 is really good value I think for a hand made pipe. Does the bike need to be moved to cumbria to have it made or will the existing pipe, plus photos where the slight deviations from standard need to be made, be OK?
