Got my new GSX1100 all sorted and finally MOT'd. Next step is the transition to drag bike!
However, on the way back from the MOT I took advantage of the 'taxless journey to and from MOT station' and took her for a bit of a blat.
Battery died after about 15miles. Assumed it was the infamous Suzuki electrics/reg/rec issues.
Taxi home, got battery off the chop, and rode the GSX home OK.
Checked charging at it seemed to be pumping out 18Volts at times. New rec/rec ordered from eltrexworld and fitted this morning.
However, it still seems to be charging rather high at times, on occasions up to 16V. Even on tickover and no load she's spiking at 15V at times.
Does this sound this OK? Normally I'd expect around 14.5V tops. The alternator seems OK - at tickover bridging the leads seems to be fairly consistent at around 25-30 volts DC.

Not sure of the specifics for the GSX but I would expect the output of the alternator to be around 80 volts AC between phases. This should be checked with the alternator cables disconnected from the rectifier and the engine running around 4000 RPM.
Sounds like the windings might be on their way out.

25-30V AC is ok at tickover

Thank you all. It was AC voltage, not DC. I think mine has a new alternator as the wiring was a different colour scheme to the normal, and it was connected to the old rec/reg with a chop block, rather than a connector! All done properly now. I didn't want to crank it up to 4 or 5000 revs as I have a fairly open exhaust and I like my neighbours!

May help taking out the alternator third wire which only kicks in when the lights are on I've just got three wires coming out the alternator which were/are directly connected to the three wires of the reg/rec.

Check all your neutral/earth wires and see if the are tight and in good nick. Had a similar problem a while back, ran a 6mm earth from the frame to the battery which cured it, main earth was connected to the engine casing.

Overcharging is typically always bad r/r. Dirty connections or bad stator can lead to under charging.
