Picked up a gsxr1127 engine last week for a 7-11 project I'm about to start but it's been sprayed with black paint and it's flaking off in places so i decided to repaint it but what's the best way to remove the existing paint? I Don't really want to break the engine down but then I want it to look tidy any ideas chaps?

Just finished my 1052 engine, the paint finish from previous owner was terrible and flaking in places real bad. All I did was used a decent wire brush, wet & dry papers & loads of elbow grease. Used the wire brush between the fins to get most of the paint off then wet & dry papers until I was happy with the finish, degreased well etch primed it and finished with PJ1 Satin Black Paint. Very pleased with the results and also did the same with my Slabby 750 engine two years ago and it's still looks spot on no issues.

paint strippers nowadays don't strip paint anymore, all the tree huggers have taken care of that.
If you want good paint stripper you have to buy it in Russia (or any other non-EU and non-tree hugging country)
