On the efe how does the lighting switch work on the left hand handle bar is the switch meant to toggle up to main beam and stay there as mine doesn't hold if that makes sense

Yup.. The switch is designed not to require you to keep your thumb on it.. Try cleaning the switch mechanism..

Got the switch working but it's not very good when switching to high beam lights go off then a pause then it comes on not the best when going fast in the dark I will get another switch

..had the idea it might be a cancelling switch.. Hmm yeah.. According to the manual it is indeed actually a self cancelling circuit.. (Using a "turn signal control unit") Not on my bike though, but then again I ripped out all "control units" and replaced them with straightforward wiring.. Got the switch working but it's not very good when switching to high beam lights go off then a pause then it comes on not the best when going fast in the dark I will get another switch Well.. That's halogen bulbs for you.. Some (most?) modern bikes have a separate "passing switch" that would probably function a bit faster.. Adapting such a switch block from another bike is certainly doable (lots of soldering involved) if the high beam flashing function is important to you..
