Trying to get it right but which way is which on the mixture screws? i'm at 1.5 turns now, standard setting is 0.5 turn although that seemed no different. I assumed in is lean & out is rich .

Let her warm up, all mixture screws set on 1.5 turns out. Now turn the mix screw on cyl no 1 IN till rpms drop a bit (as soon as you hear the difference stop) Now from that point a full turn out. Do that on all carbs, try to have the same amount of turns out on all 4 carbs

nope, bike is running rougher than Suzan Boyle. It's got a loud knocking which I'm positive is the alternator, the exhaust is blowing, it now has a clicking/ticking sound from the top end but it's not the clearances as I done them again, 'chain tensioner'? as it sounds very central. It starts on 3 & 4 then 1 & 2 when warn as it did before the rebuild. When it's on all four it sounds like it's firing on 3 & out of time, But it will rev up ok? It's all at idle. The coils are fine because I swapped them round & it made no difference. Could I have fucked up when lapping the valves? I done the leak tests on them before putting it together & they were fine. The bike will start on 2nd push but to start it I need to blip the throttle about 10 times to get a load of fuel in before I try. My mate says he would have sold it a ling time ago & admires my patients lol.

I've done everything except ultrasonic tank, & that ain't cheap. I was going to get a tank & do it myself but there's all different spec tanks & probably not powerfull enough to do the job properly

auxilary tank so yes very clean, even using shell supa dupa unleaded

Took the carbs off, cleaned out the 'blocked' pilot jets, cleaned some crap out of the bowls, set mixtures to 1.5 turns again, swapped out the plugs & it started on all four straight away. It didn't seem to be clicking this time BUT it's still chugging which I think is on cylinder 4 as I can really hear the chug on that carb. In fact the chugging is so pronounced the carbs actually move lol
