The plugs are getting oily as fook right up the threads. According to the manual and google it's oil getting past my rings or valves. If this is the case I'll be livid. I think I'd rather 7/11 it than try and repair it again. But it'll still mean I've thrown money away.

I took more than enough time with the top end re build so I doubt I will be doing it again. It's very black and very oily and I read it causes all the symptoms it's having.

7/11 will see me having to spend another £600 plus. Right now I can't be doing that as the wife will go nuts. I have my original head I could put back on which would sort valves if it were that. But that one still has 2 exhaust ports broken. Not sure if I would need to replace the head gasket as it's only been started a few times and it seems such a waste of money if it needs replacing without any use.

With a bit of rtv sealant the gasket can be re used.

How long ago did you do the top end rebuild ? New rings/ bores honed/ valve seals/ guides ?
Is it all 4 plugs that are oiled ?

You can reuse the head gasket, ive been doing it for years, as long as its undamaged, scrub it with scotch bright pad, degrease it and then 5 coats of Halfords cheap primer both sides, ive never had one leak yet and ive reused a bandit one 4 times. Was taught the trick years ago, a mate had agsxr400sp, we took the head off to get it flowed by an old bloke near us who built speedway engines, then found out you cant get head gaskets for them , this was in 1996...so he showed us what to do with the primer, worked a treat..

Not had it warmed up enough to do a compression test, however a cold test showed 150psi on all 4 after the rebuild. Oh and it was new rings, honed barrels, lapped valves, new guide seals. Knowing the gasket can reused is good to know. As I know my other head works I'll put that back on, it's just a bitch to stop the exhaust blowing. I shall do another test to see though but yesterday I was well pissed off to do anything and risked hitting it with a sledge hammer.

If it's all 4 plugs it's more likely the valves?? The bike doesn't smoke when it runs though?
