Did the XR69's run with a oil cooled slabby type engine in them in the 80's before the advent of the slabby ? I was surprised when I saw the engines in Dunlop & Cummins bikes, I always associated XR69's with air cooled GS 1000 motors. I certainly wasn't complaining though on Saturday afternoon, when Mickey D came howling towards us with the front wheel pawing the air

xr69's were air cooled, the oilcooled motor was developed for the slabside. the xr69's were the driving force behind the slabside they even have the same styling. it was said the gsxr was road legal race bike straight out the crate, but as far as i know to my knowledge the oil cooled engines were never used before this as a prototype or anything.

That's what I always thought , not sure how the bikes are eligible for classic racing , if they never existed in this guise originally
