Hi guys i have a simple problem whose solution leads to a whole series of unknowns and growing list of potential replacement parts, i'm sure you all know how that goes !
i'm trying to replace the front brake pads. I have a b6 front end on a gs550. The friggin pad retainer bolts have welded themselves in and wont come out. So rather than sweat trying to drill them out i was thinking about using b12 calipers.
So do b12 calipers bolt on to b6 forks directly ?
do b12 forks go into b6 yokes ?
do b12 stearer tubes go into b6 frame ?
thanks

um so i'm gonna document stuff here and you guys can laugh at my planning....or maybe find it useful, its clearer in my head anyway.
I asked the above questions to google;
b12 calipers are 90m fork mount bolt spacing and dont fit b6
b12 fork tubes are 43mm and wont fit into 41mm b6 yokes
b12 stearer wll go into b6 headstock
b6 front wheel (17mm spindle) will not go into 20mm spindle b12 forks.
So
To upgrade front end on gs5/gsxr7/gsf6 hybrid, utilising my sumitomo calipers from a departed yamaha (rip) (90mm fok mount bolt spacing) and b12 forks and yolks, which may or may not bolt into the gs5 frame. Would need a b12 wheel and cost probably near 200 quid.
Therefor
i've got a guy drilling out the b6 caliper reatining bolts from the back, and i'll live with limited front brakes and limited suspension adjustability.
Unless
i can be bothered to offer up the gsxr7L front end

Drilling the calipers is pretty straight-forward. I think that's a good choice on your bike. I was going to fit one on the front of my GS500 but decided I would miss the excitement zero stopping power!

GS500 (...) but decided I would miss the excitement zero stopping power! if you think a GS500 is bad, try a GS1000
