After wrapping it up in ali foil and taping it down, got the first layer on the left side only today. Will do another one soon enough, then remove it. Repeat on the right hand side, and remove that too so I can take all the clay off the bike, then join both halves together.

This is seriously making me wanna have a go at making a tailpiece sometime Only ever used that chopped matting filler stuff, like Isopon P40, to modify fairings and helmets so headin' into new territory. I know there's different grades (thicknesses?) of matting avavilable... what did you use for this project fella?

I know there's different grades (thicknesses?) of matting avavilable... what did you use for this project fella? At the moment, I have used a simple matt cloth used for repairs to get a basic shape. Only used 2 layers for the moment so I can remove the half side off the bike, as you can see. Once I have made the other half, I will join them together, with all the model clay removed from the bike and begin shaping the cowl to my liking. From the 2 halves, I will run a layer both sides in cloth matt, probably 3 oz, then do a single layer either side of double bias 450gsm, then fill in the gaps using balloons with resin wrapped in a peel ply sheet. Once you remove the peel ply from the job, you are left with a clean smooth surface to work with, prep for paint and we're done

Using just 2 layers of matting, is that because it makes it easier to remove if there's a bit of give (flex) ?. Appreciate the help
