Was on the old site, been thrashing round on this for a couple of years: 750 L, built many years ago and never changed. It looks the same as the streetfighters I was waxing lyrical when writing bollocks for an extreme performance specials magazine in the 90's. Its actually a gothic purple colour, but it never photographs that way... Someone spent a lot of money on this, flicking through the folder of receipts shows both the emotional and financial the commitment at the time; and the fact its lived for all these years since and is still relatively fresh. OK, the polishings a bit dull, the paint's got the odd mark , but generally, it's in great nick - and I gave the guy a grand for it. So, in October this year I decided I was going to give it a freshen-up. Big pile of bits: Big bit ready for powder: Had to get the mig out for the bottom bearing... Got this lot done in both gloss and satin for £140 at LSN: Zincing kit: Some of the shiny bits: So this lot came back: Chucked the forks together: Polished bits as well, just to keep the theme of the original build: So, the build starts: More next time Thanks for looking Simon

Thanks for the kind words guys. Right, where was we... Titainium swinger nut from my old DRZ Wiring loom back in, was really clean and in great condition. Alternator plug had welded itself together but that's no biggy... Had to put the starter solenoid into the blaster for 20 seconds as there was a little corrosion/festering... Looks a little nicer under there now its all powder coated :-) Rear part on, temp tie-wrapped as I've bound to have routed something wrong... Finally got myself some balls: So, slapped 'em in a bit of grease and fitted the steery-end New swinger bearings as the others were victims of water-ingress. Some of my zinc bits in :-) Satin top yoke on Rear adjusters. I zinc'd the adjusters and circlips. not easy polishing them I'll tell you... Priddyer than a 50 dollar whore Polishing mop goes round and round Ha! Slight interlude. I had to give this bike away in 97, I entered the comp but couldn't win it as I started there just before it was drawn. Always wanted it... ....ended up with one of its panels! Wonder what history that had? So, got the shiny forks lubed up like a rape victim, stretched the yokes. Wiggle, wiggle, grunt, grunt... ...scrawk scrawk, scratch scratch. Bollocks. Scratched the pair of them. Ho hum, no worries, I'll think of a fix later on. Got an idea So pissed off tonight, going to have a bottle of wine, write this and order more stuff off that evil bay thing. Sorry for not many words, not much to say about a bog-stock build. It will get more interesting when we come to the engine bit. Honest. Thanks for looking Simon

Apart from the fork situation the rest of the build looks like it's going well. There's always one part of every build that tests your patience. A bottle of vino usually takes your mind off it. For a while anyway.

For a while anyway. Yeah, pissed about the forks. It's the first time I've had forks powdered, this is the test mule, was going to have the Buells done but, to be honest, they scratch soooo easily, and with the amount of raising and lowering due to drag duties planned for next year I really wish I hadn't bothered. I'll put up with it for as long as I can but to be honest, I'll probably have it removed and polished again. The engine is going to test my patience. That's why its last....

I made some yokes for someone a few years back and he then decided to have the forks coated. Same thing happened as yours. Ended up he was adamant I took a bit more out of the yokes to stop them scratching. It'll all be worth the headaches in the end.

Just get them anodized. Place over near me in Barnoldswick does them for about £50 a pair. A couple of the lads on here have had them done there.

I was thinking that but they were quite scuffed with badly-routed braided hose so I thought powder would sort it. It has filled the scrapes nicely, just added some new ones now That sounds like a great price, but at this moment in time I don't really want to pull them apart again, I'll see how I feel as the build comes to its conclusion

Got a bit more done, front wheel in: Rear shock was stripped and rusty bits blasted and zinc plated, dull bits shone up again... Back together and in its rightful place: Finally its on its own wheels, still not decided on a direction for it yet, but keeping my options open as the work I'm doing now would need to be done anyway. Got the 6-pots cleaned up and fitted. TBH, what a waste of money they were, wish I'd left the 4-pots on. At least they look good Got the Vinny straights and the Vapor on. It's so tight in the garage, I have to put stuff under the ramp so to lower it down is a mission in itself. I'll get it lowered this weekend if its not too cold So that's where we are at the moment, got all the metalwork to zinc for the footrest hangers, mount the rear brake caliper and torque arm, sort out whether I'm going for a handlebar fairing (was thinking GS125) or whether to put a GSXR top fairing on. I like the simpleness of the bikini fairing, but I'll need more protection when it comes to top speed runs. I have just bought some headlight mounting brackets that were mounts for Bates lights as my intention is to mount a small head oil cooler above the bottom yoke, which would look OK with the GS bikini, but awkward with a full GSXR top section as its full of headlights. Time to do some thinking... Thanks for looking Simon
