I know they have to be 2mm higher, so does that mean 12mm or 16mm? Simon 16. Looking good. Thanks Captain!

Greetings. Straight into it today. 10mm flanges I had cut fitted fantastically. I cut one of the bends I got from Rebel Powerpipes in Barton-upon-humber. Got the wideband bung in as well, then off to Rebel for it to be welded up. View from the side While I was waiting for the pipe to be welded I got on with the rest of the bits. Stripped the Bandit 600 sprocket cover and copaslipped all those silly little ball bearings. Works a lot smoother now. Got the scavenge braided hose cut to size, although the blingy hex cover for the jubilee clip was to small. Out with the drill... After a dair bit of faffing around, got it to fit, although it does stick out a fair bit there wasn't much else I could have done. May change it at a later date, we'll have to see... Waited a week for the silicone hose to come from ASH, couldn't wait any longer so I used the original rubber tubes and safety-wired them on... Bloody left about a pint of blood where the wires kept sticking in my fingers So finally got the carbs on and the plenum in. What an absolute bastard getting it in. Not sure how long the stepped rubbers will last as they certainly got a fair amount of grief locating the tubes into the rubbers Trimmed down the oil cooler pipes to exactly the right size so they clear the motor and the exhaust/ inlet tubes. Picked the pipe up and fitted the lambda and routed it nicely. Made a start on the the fuelling and the electrics. I decided to make a plate from 2mm alloy and mount it on the rear tank mount bracket. Got all the fuel on one side and the electrics on the other. A fair bit of messing around getting the 7.6mm high-pressure hose on 8mm barbs but got there eventually... Work in progress... Fuel pump mounted and isolated with a bit of spare silicone hose I had laying around: Bit of a crap shot of the regulator, it's the shortest (and straightest) distance from the return on the regulator to the tank. Start of the wiring on't other side. I'm wiring the fuel pump to only work when the oil light goes out, just in case anything should happen it won't keep pumping shitloads of fuel into (or onto) a bad situation. Finally I was the point where I could see if it spun over and get the oil pressure up and around the motor. " hours later the non-start situation was cured when I noticed I hadn't plugged the ignition plug in.... Well, that;s where it is at the mo; there's a touch of oil dribbling out of the exhaust which means the feed is ok , not had the scavenge working yet but when I dropped the return hose off it was full of oil. Going to be nothing to report for a couple of weeks as other things take priority at the moment, still want it done for March, but now looking for 2nd week as opposed to the start of the month I had given myself as the deadline. Thanks for looking. Simon

With that stubby exh. pipe beware of the AFR numbers you get as the proximity to atmospheric air will likely cause a lean reading due to excess oxygen.

Funny that katana, I was going to say the same but would not have put it so affluently.

Thanks for the heads-up Katana, this is the "posing" pipe, really just to see if it all works. I have another to make that will be 3" full system with a silencer that will be used on the bike when it's doing it's top speed duties, hence having two turbo flanges made up!

Hi guys, Been a couple of weeks without an update. Doesn't mean I haven't been busy I slipped the bodywork on to get a boost. Did the job... Needed to make some sort of instrument binnacle so ordered some alloy of the auction site and got to work with version & 2, finally transferring it to alloy I used the 1100 alloy part as a template for the curves as I wanted to keep the original sweeping lines And fitted. OK, I could have spent another 45minutes just fettling the curves a bit better but, to be honest, I need to get moving with the build as it still hasn't run yet and D-Day is looming... Saturday gave us a break in the weather so it was time to pull the bike out, prime the fuel and spin it over. ...AND IT RUNS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Been a lot of behins the scenes talk about the carbs. Here's my take on it. I lock-wired EVERYTHING that was rubber. Then, for the large breather pipe the 750 carbs have I used a piece of silicone hose and clamped it to the inside of the vent pipe. I just T'd into the plenum fitting that feeds the lower carb vent tubes, fuel regulator and BOV. I'd asked a guy who's a bit handy on the CNC to make me a fuel tap block up. Spoke to him and he seemed well into it, never got the return call so this afternoon I decided to make it myself. First off, a massive block of alloy Then a hacksaw So then I thought I'd buy an all-singing, all dancing CNC milling machine of my own. I popped of to pikey supplies and ended up with this So. B&Q pillar drill, broken machine clamp (with tension from one of those big clips). Distance money shot. Quite a dew grabbing sessions and we got there. Even drilling a couple of holes straight for a change meant it bolted to the tank like God! Me liking it! Pilot holes drilled for the 1/8th npt fittings Offset hole on the outer so I don't have a problem with hose clips. Even used the drill to get the tap straight. That's a first as well. No last picture as it's on the bench being fettled so it looks a lot neater. Should be loooooking gooooood next weekend. Thanks for looking. Simon

So you drilled the carb bodies with a 6mm drill?
I can confirm now (after a little ride yesterday) that the mod works.

Been a couple of busy days... First off, the fuel gauge, I miss-ordered the gauge last time and bought a quality one but 1 - 7 bar rather than 0 - 2 bar.... It arrived, I fitted it, I set the fuelling up and it started pissing fuel out and the lens fell off... :-/Cheap shite. Going to replace it with another glycerine one, just the right scale this time. smileychair Also scored a vent filter for the poundshop drinking bottle Yoshimura special order breather catchtank. Yup, that was shite as well... At least the seller gave me my money back... At least the wastegate turned out better. Did a BIN on our favourite auction site and got next day delivery of this brand-new Forge wastegate from a VW something-or-other. Came with two springs, yellow one fitted. I just had to fettle the original bracket, make up a small alloy bracket, recut the threads on the arm a few cms and tap the original end from 6mm fine thread to 6mm course. Fits a treat Still forgot to put a split pin in it... Next job, exhaust. Nothing wrong with the one I made earlier, except it isn't going to stand a chance of passing scrutineering as it's waaay too loud. time for some new bends: Mocked up, ready for taking to the exhaust emporium for proper welding and packing Monday Went down to the local Hydraulics place for some 1/8th npt 8mm barbed fittings. No go. Not available. I was sure I'd seen them on ebay so did a quick search while in the shop and found them. They're special but available for the Facet fuel pumps. I ordered 2 x 8mm and 2 x 10 mm for the inside of the tank (for no reason than I knew I'd have to file them to get them to fit. Yes, I know one's on the piss. It's supposed to be. It's so I can get the clips on easily as there's not a lot of room under the tank. For the return tube I used some 10 id steel tube and fettled the npt fittings until it was a tight push-on. Then mounted it into the tank. Sorry, didn't get any pics as I had fuel on my hands... No leaks though Last major job was just put a bit of a kink onto the air filter. I just prefer the look when they're canted a bit. Plus, I'm not responsable for cutting the actuator off, it was done when I got the turbo, but the wastegate fouled a bit as well so I spaced to out the filter and now no problems So, it was a nice day today, started it up and snicked it into gear ready for its first run. Hmmmm, nothing.... Pulled the clutch and couldn't see anything wrong. Its exactly how the Haynes manual said, but there's no drive. It wasn't until I looked at the parts microfiche I noticed the clutch starts with a steel, not a fibre as mentioned in the haynes manual... Extra steel in and we're good to go! So, had it up to 25mph in 1st gear down the street, neautral light isn't working and those front 6-pots are still as shit as they were when I first got them (and stripped them, and changed the seals, pistons and rebuilt. THEY ARE SHIT!!!!!!!!) Last job was make up a pikey chain guard: Hoping to have it done for the inaugural visit to Elvington on March 17th. Still not sorted the jetting out, its very very wet on low throttle with black liquid running out of the turbo when it's cold Thing is, I'm not bothered. As long as it's running right/rich when on boost its good enough. It's not built to go to the shops it's built to attempt 200mph, nothing else. I'm more panicky about the fact I haven't got a trailer yet as it won't fit on my motox trailer without smashing the turbo and scavenge pump off... More next week. Thanks for looking Simon
