Where did you get the seat covering from it looks great, is it waterproof ? did you fit it over the originals ? It was off ebay, cost about £11 for 1x2metres. The advert says waterproof but I'd be skeptical about that I removed the original vinyl as it had a couple of tears in it but I see no reason why you couldn't just pull it over the originals. It's not hard to fit, just need a staple gun and a bit of patience. I'd recommend doing the rear seat first to get your head round it as thats the easiest one to do! Here's more pics of me doing the Buell seat (which was a bastard!) Measure it out, allowing for fold-over: Staple either front centre or one side centre, then work your way out with the material. Its not as stretchy as the proper stuff but it also isn't £100/metre as well... Getting the creases out is the hard bit.... I stapled mine well inboard and sparingly so I could pull the naterial once I got it going in the direction I wanted. Then I could pull it more and staple it more where the original staples were. It will still "ruck up" a bit when it's been used, I think now mine could be pulled tighter now I've done some miles on it, but remember, It's a suede copy, so will stay wet unlike leather. If you've got jeans on it's going to take a bit of explaining why you look like you pissed yourself! Hope that helps! Simon

Thanks for posting your progress. Really interesting. Regarding your "damp seat" problem ahem... There are various sprays that can provide some waterproofing (of the seat). Not sure whether they are PTFE or silicon based. Maybe this stuff? gtechniq.com/shop/3s-for-cars/interior-coatings/i1-smart-fabric/ try on an offcut first though.

Thanks for the Link Matt, but I'm what is commonly known as "not a proper biker". I don't go out in the wet, I turn round and go home if it looks like rain and I certainly don't race in it! Seem to remember back in the 80's getting caught out in the rain and thinking "It's not too bad this wet stuff". Then cold water invaded the nice warm sanctuary where my plums rest and the ride got worse from that moment on. Except for a short shower I got caught in a few weekends ago on the M180 I've never been rained-on on a bike since that day

Off work this week so got a few bits done yesterday, hoping to sort the choke out today. First off, yesterday. Got to fire the bike up. It's STILL not starting right. The main problem is the choke. Not normally an issue but for some reason on mine the choke rail runs very very close to the bolt that holds the cam chain slider on the head. So when I pull it on, it locks and I have to raise the tank to get it out of the way. More on that later today as I also have another plan! The other thing p1ssing me off is the oil drain. I've got fed up waiting for people to make things so I've temp. cut a 90degree fitting and just used two bits of hose to connect them. Let's see if this works... From the front. Oil is definitely leaking past the scavenge into the turbo as I found when I didn't have a return pipe to the turbo and found a litre of brand-new oil on the garage floor . This is obviously whey I've got the smoking problems on start up. If it doesn't do its 200mph target this weekend then I am going to have to spend some money on anti-syphon valves and one-way check valves. Another pic of it smoking. This time it's the rear tyre I'd have bought this one but he only got the one of me and considering the amount of smoke i was throwing about (not to mention rolling out of the burnout box on the lockstops most times) I've ordered some great prints from Becci Ellis photography again One of becci's pics I've ordered: We'll bring more news as we have it, as they say on the telly... Hi Simon, Have you tried putting the scavenge pump lower than the turbo? Might help with your problem. Great build by the way, will done. Cheers SRR

Cheers SRR Thanks for the kind words SRR, I've got it as low as I dare really to be honest. What it needs is a catch-tank and a couple of one-way valves but unfortunately time isn't on my side and the new stuff I was promised never materialised. I've a guy making a new 90degree bend but I've a feeling that'll be wrong as well! Time to sort it properly after this weekend as it's wont have any more work to do for a couple of months! Simon

Well, not the best of weekends. The crappy smoking problem was back. I'd changed the oil for 10w40 semi synth in an attempt to cure the smoking, but the problem was getting worse and worse. neat oil was passing out of the exhaust tailpipe. I'd been leaving the ignition on the scavenge the excess oil but it didn't seem to be doing anything. I'd changed the battery for the Motobatt but was still having the same problem of it not cranking - exactly the same as with the old battery so obviously it's the starter.... So, out for the first run and it was pluming white smoke down the runway and was totally flat. Only showing 7 -8 psi the motor was really sluggish and didn't have the animal in it that was there last weekend. I passed the mile marker at 158mph... On over-run it was appalling. I'd put it down to the fact it had been ticking-over for a good 5 minutes (as I couldn't start it if switched off) and was super-hot. While waiting for the return run it was off - and leaking oil out of the exhaust and a little out of the turbo drain hose... The return run was even worse; no wheelie, no power and it could bearly pull 4th gear at 155mph. super disappointed. When I was feeding into the collection area all the other riders were waving like mad so I killed the motor and coasted in. What had happened was the turbo drain pipe had blown off and was feeding the runway and the underside/back wheel with my new 10w40. The lads thought my side stand was down but it was the uncurled return hose... Luckily(!?!) I'd lost a bolt from the rear number plate and it seems to have scraped the rear tyre clean in the centre obviously keeping me upright. So, had all day in the garage, a 2 hour deep clean, strip all the bodywork and the turbo system off, drain all the oil out of the turbo, plenum and BOV/WG and on Thursday off down to Dave Dunlop's for a new anti-syphon valve, facet oil pump and redesigned return system. I suppose everything had been going my way too much, it was time for a couple of steps backwards. At least the motor is still in one piece and I stayed upright. Later. Simon

God, you're a hard crowd to please. Nearly chucks it down the road and not one comment!?! Makes me wonder why I bother Anyway. Took to to Dave "fastbyme" Dunlop and he threw his years of experience across the bows of the Gixxer. First, we put the anti-syphon valve inline, Dave reduced the oil flow with the aid of a well-placed jet and then made a very neat return arrangement. Once we ran it up and burnt the old oil out of the turbo it settled down to something it's never done before - not smoked! I decided to rip out all the wiring and boost tubes and remade them all as they were messy and over-thought. All pipes routed better and most of my boost reference is now taken from the vacuum pipe on inlet number 4. Blanked pipe is from Dave's pitot as I am going to do some back-to-back tests using mine and Daves idea to see if there's any difference. The only stickers on the whole bike! Thanks for looking... Simon
