Just been looking through the santapod calendar and think I'm gonna have my first crack at straightliners ! Never raced but Have watched and attended often, anyone got any guides and tips? Was thinking trailer or van my bike down so less worries on getting home if it goes Pete tong? Lowering it as much as possible, drop my tyre pressure ( not sure what to) Then hoping for the best Unless we do a mini meet at one of the events? Could be fun and some members like my self who haven't been to a old skool meet can show there face and get some tips from each other?
Any advice would be great, as I know its still winter but can imagine it comes around quick!

Any advice would be great, as I know its still winter but can imagine it comes around quick! Do it mate, you will love it ! A van is the best option, you will have the peace of mind that if anything were to go pear shaped, you will always get home in one piece, and its somewhere to kip if you fancy going overnight. I really miss my van. What are you gonna race ? Lowering, doesn't always mean faster....I lowered my gsxr1000, and never went any quicker. In fact, I went as quick on my old slingy as I did on my k4, I never really clicked with the thou, which is one of the reasons I sold it. Tyre pressure can help you to go quicker, IF everything else on the bike is set up to suit. A lot, and I mean a lot of drag racing stems back to how your bike is set up, yes you can just jump on it and ride it as it is, but going quick, and constantly improving your times will mean looking at suspension set up (front and rear) tyre choice and tyre pressure, as well as the length of your wheelbase and ride height etc... And that is just from a numpty like me who has had no success whatsoever in drag racing, I got to one final in straightliners a long time ago (and lost) but had 10 years of great fun, and great expense getting there Anyone who knows what they are talking about can give you a whole lot more that me.

The pod may not be open at all this time of year mate, I'm not saying its closed, just a thought. If you look on facebook, and search for straightliners, contact Trevor Duckworth (he's the man who runs straightliners) he will point you in the direction of the rules, there you will find what you are supposed to wear. In the past I have seen people racing in jeans and trainers with their jackets half way up their backs, so I reckon you will be ok with what you want to use. Proper leathers is always the better option though, accidents can, and do happen. Hopefully see you there
