I bought this Bandit 4 years ago with 33k mileage. Now It's got 75k miles in odo. Imported from UK to Finland in 2010 and I'm the first Finnish owner. Last summer something happened and pistons met intake valves. Cam chain/tensioner?? It had the original automatic tensioner. Not much damage, but twisted intake valves. I wanted to keep costs at minimum by ordering a used head and cam chain bits. Well, then arrived a 750 DOT head, 38mm CV;s, 81mm high comp pistons etc.. When the engine was reassembled and put back in bike, the overall condition really started to annoy me. Mostly the frame as it had lots of corrosion. I mean there's probably not a single joint without rust in it. So out goes engine. Frame is now completely dissassembled and will start looking for a paintshop. Also yesterday received a 750 K8 shock and 1100 USD front end (cheers scowler and Kristjan). Let's see what happens next.

Nice. What compression ratio are the pistons?

UK imported bikes are known to be rusty. I think it's their weather that has something to do with it, if it has beemn a commuter bike.
So its going to be naturally aspirated if you have high CR pistons. Will you also run GSXR cams with dot head?

Weather and all the salt they chuck all over the roads here in the winter.

Looking forward to seeing your build I'm pretty sure that to fit the GSXR shock you'll have to modify the battery tray Just one thing though...........how feckin' big is that can of Fosters in the last pic?

Nice. What compression ratio are the pistons? 13:1 UK imported bikes are known to be rusty. I think it's their weather that has something to do with it, if it has beemn a commuter bike. So its going to be naturally aspirated if you have high CR pistons. Will you also run GSXR cams with dot head? That's what I've heard. Haven't seen many UK imports though. Naturally aspirated. I regretted the decision immediately after mounting those pistons. Turbo turbo turbo. Well maybe later. Bandit cams at the moment. Still looking for GSXR ones. Looking forward to seeing your build I'm pretty sure that to fit the GSXR shock you'll have to modify the battery tray Just one thing though...........how feckin' big is that can of Fosters in the last pic? Thanks It looks like I can keep the battery tray by just cutting some plastic wall before it. Not sure yet but we'll see. Otherwise that shock is a bolt on. That's a pint. We also have 1 Liter cans Weather and all the salt they chuck all over the roads here in the winter. Wait, you can drive in winter??

Weather and all the salt they chuck all over the roads here in the winter. Wait, you can drive in winter?? That's not real winter over there in the UK. It's still nice and warm, rarely below -5c. In Finland and in the Baltics we have real winter, lots of snow and temperatures as low as -35/-40c. That's why we need BIG beer cans.

Nice looking project! I wanted to keep costs at minimum by ordering a used head and cam chain bits. Well, then arrived a 750 DOT head, 38mm CV;s, 81mm high comp pistons etc.. Hmm, high comp Bandit pistons and a 750 DOT head on top of them? Have you measured and calculated actual compression ratio with these?

Just what i was thinking Artuu. That DOT head will bring you up to about 14:1 comp ratio What grade fuel will you be using?

I can't calculate the actual compression ratio and that's what worried me yes but given that it generates 200psi it should be fine? Pistons are actually high comp busa pistons. Got them cheap'ish'

Still no snow, roads are dry, too, +2 outside. Something weird about this winter. But we did have a very good summer last year though, it was perfect for riding!

yep, here nice weather as well.
Last winter was cold and long enough for two years though.

Well today I was prepping the frame for a paintjob and decided to reposition the seat lock to get rid of the original bracket. So I made some simple brackets to hide the lock behind rear brake reservoir hole I can still use the helmet lock! Old rusty bracket ..tidied up

Got them cheap'ish' What's the problem with calculating compression ratio? 200psi (~13.5bar?) sounds pretty much all right. All right, if the pistons are made for Busa then compression probably isn't that high. As far as I know Busa pistons have lower compression height so they result lower compression ratio if installed in oil cooled engines. But then combustion chamber shape may get less optimal. What was the deck height with these pistons?
