Hi guys, I'm a new member on this forum and I like to share my burden with you I'm building a track-bike, inspired by the yoshimura big papa, a fire breathing 1340cc monster build for the WERA Formula USA races in 1990. yoshi build a water cooler but hey, it says inspired. Don't mind the date stamps, my camera is bonkers I'm starting with a 1989 gsxr750 frame with a 2002 bandit 1200 engine in it. Wheels and front fork are hayabusa swingarm is a srad 750 unit and with a K8 rear spring smacking these parts together gives me the same wheelbase and geometry as a modern gsxr 1000, so it should provide some nippy steering this is how it looks mocked up currently the engine is out for some porting and skimming the head, big bore and hi comp is in the plans when I get my suspension dialled in and such. more to come fellas groetjes Bert

Looks great! I like the color combination even though it is being mix and matched...it is going to be a sweet build with that powerplant and engine mods in the plan!
What are you going to do with tail wise?

Good to see you've got your priorities right. building a bike > decorating the house

If you want a fast bike then invest more in the head and install bigger valves, stock is a bottleneck for 1340 no matter what else you do or got. Back then they advertised that 750 valves were almost 1100 spec, but I think otherwise... they strangled the 1100 with 750 spec ones!

wcgearhead: airtech has made all of the glass for the original and they still sell it, but it's expensive to get it to Belgium. www.airtech-streamlining.com/suzuz/YOSHIMURAF11988-92.htm@ Chaos: damn right! Bought the house 2 years back and this room is the last one to complete, but for now it's the bike shed Kristjan: I'm aware of that, for now it's just port matching for the 38's , the K9 headers and grinding the valve guides back. Once I go "big" I plan on valvetrain updates. made some progress on the rear suspension I will weld a little brace on top of this part. oops! how did that get there?

Sweet, I have airtech solo cowl tail for my watercooled. Grabbed it off eGay for $62 with free shipping, it needed some work of course but I think that is a score. No more than $100 invested to finish it back in top condition. I can imagine how expensive to buy it directly from airtech and ship it to Belgium . I hope you will manage to get your hands on the tail! I love that shock mount, I was disappointed that my frame didn't have detachable bracket that I can flip it to compensate for longer gsxr1000 shock. Keep coming with pictures and nothing beats having a bike being built in warm and cozy house

Hi gsexr, I've seen them used alot on cars and bikes (this was intended to be used on a mini) I have seen some burned filters but those are mostly nobs with unoiled cheap uni filters, Pipercross uses some special anti backfire foam just like all major manufacturers like twin-air. But I will take a further look in to this, thanks for you concern! we go trough alot of beer crates and they are sturdy

Cool project, though the rear look super-high. Is it going to be lowered at some point?
[edit]Big fan of the filter, can you buy these as pictured?[/edit]

Hi Reneefe, in the pictures it's just a mock-up to measure up and do my calculations. front fork needs to be a little shorter swing arm angle should be a bit flatter and seat hight is gonna be 10cm higher than stock. You can buy these filters as you see them with a blank backplate, you can see by the crappy edges I made the holes myself, model px500, type c503d 370mm wide internal height is 65mm, it fits the stock trumpets perfect. Minimum clearance to the stacks is 12mm. began porting today on the exhaust side (lot of material to be removed with these headers) had to turn down these pieces to fit in the head, I will weld them to the rest of the header later. my clip-ons arrived and did a little mock up, need to tear it all apart to weld the bottom mount for the suspension linkage. I finally found a suitable spring for my rear mc its part of a advertisement stand from ohlins. till the next time, I've been Bert and this is overhaulin !
