Bought this 1986 EFE last summer as a non runner. It had electrical problems (turned out it was the rectifier surprise surprise) bodywork a tad shabby and front forks were knackered. anyways I got her started then stripped her down for a makeover although money's tight at the moment so progress is verrrry slow. aprilia futura USD front end now loosely fitted with new steering stem pressed into aprilia bottom yoke. Mk1 bandit 1200 carbs bought, Bandit 6 wheel, and rear caliper although I'm struggling to get the wheel to fit... I've the wiring loom mostly cleaned up and the bodgery done by a previous owner fixed. in the process of a dry build to make sure everything sits nicely then the frame is off to the powder coasters. thats about it.... Great site

Going to retain stock headlight? It will ride awesome with aprilia front end! What is your plans for rear suspension?

Yes standard headlight, need to get some ears for aprilia forks. Haven't completely decided on rear suspension, the shock originally in her is in very good condition so will use that with refurbished linkages for now. In process of getting a B6 rear wheel into standard swing arm at moment.

Finally close to getting rear end sorted... See separate post under air cooled. Brother in law came through with recovered seat.

What do we think of this tank on efe ? Comments please ? original suzuki tank is pretty poor, loads of filler and needs welding around fuel tap and new fuel tap and filler cap.... Triumph tank has a dent but apart from that is perfect....is it sacrilege ?

Started this project with good intentions to stick to original as possible but updated running gear. I think it's starting to evolve though...damn it!

End of the day build the bike you want to but have to say that EFE's make such cool bikes by just upgrading a few running parts, changing the tank out etc unless you really need to in my view would be a mistake.
Everyone forms there own opinion of what makes a good bike & what needs to stay to retain the character of the original, of course some people are less interested in that character & just want to come up with their own look. If we all built the same bike or all followed the same formula it would get boring quick but think really hard about the direction you want to go with this.

Finally back at the dry build. Full floater all back together, engine in. Pipes fitted and doh! Ground clearance looks a tad low to me.... Can anyone please tell me standard efe height from lower edge of frame to ground ? Just under 5" clearance at moment, not sure if it's cause of front end or what. Can shorten down pipes to take it to 5". Running with efe tank for now.
