Hi guys,
since my mate has wizzy popped his 1100M, riding together is not that interesting anymore, so I want to turbo my B12 engined EFE. I was wondering, some 15-20 years ago draw through turbo was very popular, but nowadays everybody and their dog seems to go blow through. Why is that? Is a draw through bike dificult to ride, even a correctly built and set up one? I want to go draw through, just to be different, and I think it can be built much simpler and cheaper than a blow through.
Please discuss.

Draw Thru sounds so much better and is marginally cheaper to build...can be hard work "bit of a pain" in traffic but a real hoot when you open them up Blow thru is more rider friendly and easier in traffic "off boost" ...power del is more progressive but still a hoot ..does have more bits to go wrong though both guzzle fuel but a blow thru is marginaly better ... both are dept on how much you can do yourself when it comes to total cost......... i prefer a draw thru as its old skool and with all the blow thrus that are spawning someone has to preserve the breed..........

Thanks for the reply Clive.
Yes I know draw thru is more of a pain in trafic. But that's not a problem for me, I don't ride in town much. What kind of carb is best suited? Flatslide? CV? S&S?
Starting to collect bits now, so next winter the wizzy popping can begin.
Please post some pics of DT exhaust systems.

An S&S "super E" will work well and does have the advantage of a large float chamber that is easy to fill....good on long flat out straights
The HSR 42 or 45 is also a good carb for a road bike..but can be difficult to keep chamber full on long flat out straights .....
"TBH i never had a problem on me road bike as long as the tank was over 1/2 full".........as i did not run a pump and it was ok with 6-10 PSI ....

I was part way through converting my old draw thro' that used to run an S&S to EFI but never completed it. I was going to mount injectors into the plenum then replace the S&S with a BMW throttle body and use a Megasquirt for control - would give Blow through fuelling/drivability with the old skool look and sound.

nowt up with a draw through, best thing to do is get a test ride on a bike fitted with one, both start to pull at about 4k,under that there both ok,you just adopt your riding to suit ,both are loads of fun,

I'll just start building one slowly (I have a spare frame + oilcooled motor), I hope next spring it will be ready. Expect some dumb ass questions.

I ran a mr turbo draw thru with a hsr42 for about 4 years, 40,000miles on my 1200 bandit. I sold the draw thru and built my own blow thru. The draw thru was fine as long as you did not drive slow, in town, idle for more than a 2 or so minute at a stop light, otherwise it would load up and start to try and fouls the #1 plug. AS long as you could open the bike up once in a while to clean it out it was fine. I am much happier with my blow thru, no more fouled plugs, better mpg, And blow off valves just sound awsome. The bike also makes more power with the blow thru at the same boost levels. This is just my opinion base on my experience with my bike. I run 15psi with busa piston ..bore and drop in with no block decking, water injection, -5 degree static timing with shit 91 octane fuel.. The bike pulls 3rd gear power wheelies with a 5" extended swingarm. lots of fun to ride and so far trouble free with the blow thru 7000 miles, except for blow 2nd gear to bits on my old motor. hope this help you out.

Thanks for the advise everyone. All is being considered now, still not really sure what I want. A nice rideable in town bike would be nice of course so if I will keep just one bike it will be blow thru.
But this thread needs more pics.
