Hi folks need. Few knowledgeable flatslide gurus I'm fitting a set to my gs670 cafe racer all rebuilt new everything, there vm29's from slabbie 750-f,g,h it turns over and try's to fire but alias no idling occasionally it will run for few seconds but then dies off! The accelerator pumps are working and quirting ok too, tyres new leads coils plugs , advanced ignition not realy much odds. Mains are 100' pilots are std slabbie, 750. 32.5, and new float needles and , seals new needles new tubes cost me a fortune and there still Shite. Any ideas guys with slabbie carbs .

No filters bell mouths! And no tap as yet just dummy tank! Book says 1/2 from fully in for piolet air screws but will see how she fairs, found all four starter jets blocked tonight so out with the ultracleaner and fine bristles soon made short work of that' it does just!!!! idle but kids are in bed and been warned by her in doors no engine running after 9pm lol..... Tomorrow I will try to get it to come onto needles and rev fingers crossed!

With belmouths you need to go mixture 2.5 turns out and mains something like 120--130 mikuni

Ok but that does sound huge on main jets!!!! Motors only 670cc guess I will just try it!

Ok but that does sound huge on main jets!!!! Motors only 670cc guess I will just try it! You have to find the balance between gas and air (1kg gas -10-14kg air) , with belmouths you need big mains because the carb now sucks enorm amount of air

You have to find the balance between gas and air (1kg gas -10-14kg air) , with belmouths you need big mains because the carb now sucks enorm amount of air I disagree with that latter statement! Just removing a restriction (filters) and opening up the intake (ram pipes) doesn't mean it will necessarily injest any more air. It may be capable of doing so but unless you actually improve the breathing - head work, cams etc then it won't draw much more. A 1200 bandit will work with 105's. Bigger jets on smaller motors are needed due to LACK of airflow as they are effectively OVER carbed!

When you fit belmouths and you hit the gas, gets more air than when a filterbox. So it will run lean if you dont put a bigger main. -+30-35 numbers up When you use pods why to go +- 20 numbers up on mains, maybe cause otherwise it will be lean. Carburators have a marge of adjustements when more needed you have to change mains, bigger or smaller

You don't understand carb function - whack open a slide carb without an accelerator pump system and it'll fall on its face as it looses all gas speed so won't pull on the intermediate or MJ. Use of pods = CV carbs & they are designed to keep gas speed constant no matter what is being done with the throttle! As I said a filter is a minor restriction and a K&N will reduce that and only if it is capable of ingesting more air the jets will increase - my 1100 with 36 cv's used 125 MJ stock with an increase to 1186 with same carbs and K&N's it only needed 132's for a 20hp increase at the rear wheel = better breathing needed more fuel. Example a turbo engine with blow through carbs needs very little MJ increase even though airflow through through could be 50% greater.

Comparison should be with same engine internals and carbs, only change would be filtration Filter box Double pods Single pods Belmouths
I change mains and adjust mixture screws, others change the whole bike
