Ive done a 1min 41 round cadwell full circuit. Not weighed it lately but being Road legal adds bit of weight it was around 215 with fuel but its changed a lot since them days. That's good going, a very spritely pace ! From a 1991 USA mag., who weighed every bike, found the wet weight to be a very porky 248 kg ! - 215 kg is 77lbs saved in old currency !! I've managed to lose 40lb (and 20lb myself) so far and even that is very noticeable, on the move and just pushing it around. Have you fitted a 520 chain ? or moved to a 530, I was wondering whether to down size my own chain when it's time to replace and how durable a 520 is. Waiting for the battery to fail, then a lithium battery will knock a few pounds off ! Keep the OC flag flying proudly

Im not sure I would be on that pace anymore with such long layoff but times I've being on it im not fazzed in anyway which is good start. I would go 530 you want have any problems use good quality, I have snapped one and it was only year old but I had noticed I tight spot and thought will have change it soon, not soon enough Does not help that its jacked up so much have run lots of chain slack. 520 chain just dont last especially sprockets ok if your racing then throwing in bin every other race.

Those lithium batteries are amazing even with compression ratio of 13 to 1 and pain in butt fcr carbs.

Thanks for your info Jonny1bump - will go for 530 chain with Renthal alloy sprocket. I'll start saving for the Lithium battery. . . . - hope you brush off your rust again !

It's an itch that must be scratched !
e-bay is always a swine - don't need anything, but still buy bits that might be handy !

Ive being doing quite well at down sizing lately. So you've got extra space and more money ! I've been battling Lyme disease for a few years, but the tinkering on my 1100 has kept me sane -I don't get out for a ride as often as I would like, so the work I do on it is very therapeutic and when I do get out it great to feel the improvements. I always think of bits to do, the internet is great for ideas ! I worked in the bike industry until pretty recently and although I appreciate how well the latest bikes handle and scream at the top-end, you don't really 'bond' with them, they are great 'products' - plus you can only add trinkets to them, rather work on them and get a lot of satisfaction from it. Did you ever add crank case vents to reduce pumping losses ? The modern forks on your 1100 must work well and they must be a good few pounds lighter than the originals ? - I've got the originals working well, but they are heavy - likewise the headlight assembly weighs a ton compared to modern reflectors, but I don't want to change the look too much, because the Oilers are handsome old things, but there's a stack of things that can be done - well, anything apart from frame, engine cases and fairings really! - although aftermarket fairings are half the weight and could be made to look pretty original. What mods did you particularly like ? Sorry for the questions, but you've done a lot of work and obviously worked out what's good and what's not so great. Cheers !

Im sorry to hear about your Lyme disease im pleased your happy thou. Ive being mechanic for few people im not so keen on crewing for my friend in isle man who we lost as i would want to do it but crewing on drag strip really don't mind as got bored with that as a rider but enjoy watching. The original 1100 forks are ridiculously heavy like tl and really dont work that well the k forks are brilliant especially with replaced internals such as K tech. You need to junk the 1100 headlamp ridiculously heavy and having all that weight high over front end completely wrong. Pumping losses oh yes that is more important then you thing all going to say here have a look at a Busa in bits compared to our 11, look at the barrels and cases. I crew for ray and hes build fastest super street bikes in Europe. listen to the old boys they not all old and senile lol.

Thanks for the tips J1B. With age comes experience, there's a lot to say for it ! I do like Hayabusa's (have had 2), a very good engine and the 1100 feels a bit similar. Busa's are nice road bike and will take a stupid amount of tuning in it's stride. Ray Debben, who's not far from me, had a drag Busa in,that puts out 700bhp - although obviously it's had tons of money spent on it - he did say the 1/4 mile times, they were silly fast. I won't go silly on modding the 1100, just thoughtful stuff that makes it more fun. I'll get another Busa at some stage too. Cheers Nick

Well it was very trick, very low and didn't have all it's bodywork, but did have a huge turbo ! Those figures sound right too - Ray said he had 2 customers with BIG horsepower Busa's and said that one had done a 7 second 1/4 at 200 odd mph and the other wasn't far off. It's not worth going for big horsepower with our dear old Oilers - the Busa is easy enough to make a reliable 220/30 hp and 115/20 lb/ft torque for not too much money - that's progress. Still 150 hp and 90 odd lb/ft torque from a Oiler would be more than useful on the road and nice and reliable/ not too hot running.. Got mine handling pretty well and just trying to lose a bit more weight, as J1B said the headlamp assembly is very heavy on the 91/92 1100 and it's in the wrong place for good c of g - all good project stuff !
