So, it looks like I need a new engine for my 750 WN. Of course, I can get another '92 engine, but if anyone knows of any other engine that will slot in with no mods, or only those that a numpty tinkerer like me could handle, please let me know. I'm in Barcelona, and options are limited so I want to expand them as much as poss. If I was back in the UK, things would be much easier
There's something missing in this picture (not fairing, I don't miss that):

GSX-R 750 1992-1995 engines (pre-SRAD) all fit, the '94 and '95 engines have extra mounting points on the sides of the head but these are not needed. GSX-R 1100 1993-1998 (all watercooled 1100's) also fit straight in. So do '92-'93 600 engines, they are based on the 750. The RF 600 and 900 engines are also based on the GSX-R, but they don't fit in your frame, the heads are completely different with carbs positionned higher.

Thanks captain c - that's exactly the sort of info I wanted.
So with the 1100, will I need different carbs? Bigger exhaust system or something?

I have no experience with watercooled GSX-R's, but if they're anything like the oilcooled ones, the 1100 runs just as well on the 750's 38mm carbs, instead of the 40's.
You will need a different exhaust system though. And a CDI unit.

If you use an 1100 water cooled motor you can get away with a 750 exhaust if you change the sump bolt for a flatter round headed Allen bolt.
You also don't need the separate oil cooler that the 1100's use if you use the 750 oil cooling system.

Looks like I've found a good condition, '93 750 engine with 30k (km) for 400€! Just got to save enough for it (and the haulage).
Thanks very much for the input everyone!

You could also stick the 750 head onto the rf900 and use that.

The seller of the engine I thought was going to be 'the one' didn't give me enough assureances that he wasn't a flipping chancer - it's on the other side of the country. So I had to leave it (I'm not putting out 470€ just to get scammed and have the engine blow up on me. So now I'm looking for another one. There are a load of oil cooled engines out there too many water cooled. with some modifications, yes. What sort of mods are we talking about here?

with some modifications, yes. What sort of mods are we talking about here? i have never done this myself but AFAIK new engine mounting plates need to be made, and there's some trouble with exhaust/frame downtubes interference, depending on which exhaust you use.

Damn! It's been ages since starting this thread and I only just noticed it again now. I'm glad to say that about 3 moths ago, I found a 750 WP motor on thEbay. Luckily the seller was willing to complete the transaction off-bay and I managed to save some cash because of it. Just as well as I needed to spend extra on shipping it from Stalbridge, Dorset to Barcelona. It arrived in 3 days! Packed really well in a custom made MDF crate. It has only been in the last few days that I've been able to actually start the bugger - and it works! What a relief. I still haven't ridden it or used it in anger as such, but the seller's word is good; it's always a bit dodgy distance buying, but this has worked out (so far). So, thanks very much to Spence from Doc's Bikes for keeping up your end of the deal. Nice one mate!
