Went out for a blast up to the Pondarosa (Llangollen) on my SB6 (GSXR 1100 WS motor) 1/2 way there the gearbox started playing up. A quick blast away from a junction, 1st - 2nd - 2nd - 2nd no 3rd. Then I finally get it into 3rd and 4th no problem. Then it wont change down out of 4th. Finally get it down the box, then all seems OK. turn around head home and it all starts over again. Get home and try the gears by hand. Linkage seems stiff lumpy and doesn't spring back etc. I'm presuming its the Pawl springs ? Any thoughts? Engine out job I suspect. AAAAARRRRRRRRSSSSSSSSSS

not an engine out job, just a clutch out job.

Before you start pulling engine bits out or dropping the motor out, just take all the gear linkage off and clean and grease it..

Thanks Blue, Iv had similar advice on the Bimota forum. Captain on a Bimota SB6 you cant even change the front sprocket without dropping the engine, let alone take the clutch out.
I'll check the linkage and let you know.
Cheers,
Si..

Before you start pulling engine bits out or dropping the motor out, just take all the gear linkage off and clean and grease it.. also a big problem on SRAD models. They need regular maintenance otherwise they f*ck up very fast.

Bugger bugger, Took the bodywork off last night for a look see. Looks like the linkage is all ok, gave it a quick strip n clean. Seamed to go up and down gears ok-ish. Bike up on stands, fired it up, up the box ok down the box ok. re-checked every thing, tried up the box again and it didn't want to change 2nd - 3rd. Looks like as it gets hot the problems start. Think it maybe a little more serious. Next stage I think will have to be gearbox out. Ho hum pif n dandy.

If it appears when it gets hot, is the clutch lifting all the way ? A little drag would make shifting harder. How old is the oil ?

The oil is 12 months and about 3 1/2 K miles old. I'm going to drop the oil out in the morning and check the filter etc. Its not the clutch.

This will be the interface issue with the SB6 frame and access to the clutch. Don't you just love Italians.

is filling up engine oil also an engine out job? Or just a fuel tank off/crankcase breather cover off job (which is easier)?
