here goes with my first project thread on here smileystick i had my first katana some 20 odd years ago which was my daily ride.... crashed it three times (not always my fault!) dispatched it then swapped it for a z650 and always fancied getting another one day. so with some light pushing from a couple of very good mates i threw in a bid and bagged this 750sd that had been stood for some time. the seller assured me it was a runner which it was of sorts.....

so the plan is to modify and upgrade as i'm using it.....rolling project? first on list was to junk the standard pipes (sorry!) and i managed to find a L&W exhaust in germany which soon arrived in sunny shropshire next was to get some rear shocks that worked and luckily i already had some tec piggybacks bought for another project....i just needed to change the lower mount from an eye, to fork fitting. i ended up cutting the forks off the original shocks and welded on a couple of bmw wheel studs which were the correct thread to screw into the bottom of the tec shocks. happy enough with work so far i got it on the road

grabbed a couple of hours today and got the new front end fitted.... slabby bits with alloy yokes and risers slotted in a treat, will remove the extra heavy duty fork brace for a little trimming and to get some pockets machined into it, and keeping an eye out for a front mudguard. clocks fitted and found an offending loose wire off the connection block, yeah ha, we have a working tacho again test fitted the fairing and it all goes together fine, bleed the brakes.......somehow i think fitting the matching rear wheel wont be quite as straight forward but pleased with progress.....

about time i updated, now have matching wheels! dropped the rear sprocket size down to a 42 tooth now which feels about right and have made a chainguard since i took the pics..... just on the look out for a pair of standard yokes (gone off the look of of the big chunky ally jobbies) and a rear caliper that actually fits the disc my luvly wife has given me some MSV trackday vouchers so i've no excuses not to be be hooning the old kat around at some point this year.....
