do you realise that the engine is a '90/'91 750? At least the clutch cover is. How many cc (should be on the left side of the barrels)? Hi. Heres the R707-108819 engine number. Youve got me worried now . Im about to replace the cam cover gasket as it leaks so need to make sure engine is right one. Its a dot head with 748 on the side

DOT head should be 748cc so it looks like only the clutch cover has been changed.
Your engine is '88-'89, just like it should be.

Ta. It was vin plated as manuf 8/89. Would this make a diffrrence to clutch cover. Was there much difference in clutch design

8/89 means that it's one of the very last shortstroke Slingys. Model year '90 starts in 9/89.
Don't know about the clutch itself, but the fact that the newer cover fits means that the covers are not very different. Only visible difference is the niple on the newer one and the oil amount which is probably different.

Im now obsessed with this bike. Im a bit concerned about ocd developing over finishing it. If im not tinckering around with stuff to do on it im searching fleabay to look for things to get for it or just reading about other builds on gixxer.com forum. Thankfully i dont have power in the shed yet ot id be out there all the time. Have i become a tragic or do you others spend countless hours on bikes when thd weather is shit and cant ride?

on a hill near a pub in sunny oz
Seeing the cam covrr had a weep i thought id check the valve adjustment while i was replacing the gasket. Should i be overly worried if there was a drop of oil where the pickup coil is?

No, it's supposed to be oily there. If you look carefully you can see the crankshaft in there.
What you should worry about is no location listed in your profile.
