Hi all! I like the topic: Show me your headers so that we can see all the designs everyone has and to hear the reson why tha made them that way. Now i was making a new plenum and i have some questions about it becous i think it is still not the best way to make one. I am driving a GSXR 1100, borde up to 1216 with busa pistons Have 31 mm carbs form a gsx 600 A Volvo turbo Td04l-14t I made pretty much everything myself, except the planum, that i borrowed from Turbo egg. It works fine, got 224 hp and 228 nm out of it, but now i am thinking of making one my self of aluminium and not out of coper like the one i borrowed. The old one has two 4mm inner diameter pilot pipes for pressurising the carbs, i think it is to small. Now i am thinking of using one bigger pipe because that way the carbs always get the same pressure, but what size are you guys using? And i see and hear about angelcut the pipe, is this nessesary and why?? Also i thought i had made a good new disign plenum, but now when i am blowing air into it only out of the 4th cillender comes a lot of air and the rest almost nothing. Can you sow me how you made yours and what is the best way of making one?? Thank you for your reply!

Air is like water and it will ALWAYS take the path of least resistance. Having the slot parallel just allows the air to get to the nearest cylinder easier and first. If the slot was tapered ie. narrow at cyl 1 and wider at cyl 4 you'd get better distribution. Re the Pitot tube - to keep the same relative pressure simple math says an 8mm int. dia would be correct although this is generally 'too' big and most achieve acceptable results with smaller 6mm bore tubes!

Hi, Here are few photos about how I did mine. So the basic idea is the same than with your plenum but there are also some diverter slots between the feed pipe and the main chamber to ensure even distribution of air. This seems to work quite well in real life too. At least EGTs are quite equal for all the cylinders. Your design looks quite good but the slot in the feed pipe might be a bit on large side. In theory the slot should have about the same cross section than the feed pipe or even slightly smaller. And wedging the pipe over whole plenum length could help too.

Heres the FBM draw through plenum from my 1500 pendine -ran HSR45 50/50 av gas/ superpiss Ticks over , great throttle response - pulls clean on boost all the way through - ace fun sideways on sand And checkout the super trick Q-R plenum restraints - tidy man tidy , tidy as hell

i went with katana's advice to go withe the 6 mm inner tube for the pitot in stead of 8 mm, see how that works next week. This planum is just for learning and trial and error, i am still not sure what design i will go with but i like all the advice. I am already have a friend of mine making 4 aluminum funnels (kelk) with a o-ring in side that goes directly over the carburator in stat of with a rubber tube and clamps. I have got some ideas from the net for planum design, only problem is the limited amount of space i have for it.. Have some pictures of what i am thinking of making, i still think a triangle shape is the best way to start.

i went with katana's advice - in the absence of any conflicting options and I won't blame Katana if it doesn't work! ! ! - to go with the 6 mm inner tube for the pitot instead of 8 mm, see how that works next week. The beauties of fluid mechanics analysis software LOL Hope it works out! There you go - I corrected it for you!

Heres my prismatic plenum that dave dunlop @ FBM turbo systems did for my STRAYKAT No flow maps or proposed cad , just 170+ kits built - dyno testing after the Mickey T dies Very happy with the custom made plenum that i hacked and attacked to fit the side panels - dave then fabricated the sides to fit the panels and the plenum restraints -
