Just Acquired a 1988 250RR, It looked good on the outside (from a distance ).
It's a non-runner. Its been garaged for 15 years, NO storage prep was done....no fluids drained at all.
No rust prevention either......
It had to be dragged out of the sellers garage, with both wheels seized solid!
After a time I managed to get the wheels to rotate, all-be-it only just. so it was put on the transport, and bought home.
And so it begins.....................

I have started to strip the bike, I started with the obvious, the fairing, the retaining screws to the side panels snapped off, I didn't just attack the bike, I sprayed the whole bike with penetrating fluid and it sat for a week soaking, but the fasteners are just shot...there was nothing I could do.
So it was a day of careful removal of all the panels, cleaning and storing away in the attic in individual bags. I drained the fuel tank into my jerry can. There was no need to drain the rear brake fluid, as the calliper seals had long-since perished and bled the fluid onto the sellers garage floor. I removed the rear calliper, and oh my....what a mess, it looked like just one lump of alloy/steel...amalgamated into a corroded ugly lump.

Why do people do it I see bikes lying about rusting to death on the iom and the dicks are happy to let it happen rather than sell it to someone who will do something with them good luck with it though not many of them left

But I have managed to save it I think....just need the seal kit...looking at the calliper, it looks like the ones that were fitted to the 750, circa 1988/89.

Once I got a GS850 for free which had been standing for 14 years, the last 4 outside. But my luck was that just before it was put away it spat out the cam cover gasket, covering most of the bike in oil. This preserved it very well. Cleaned the carbs, connected a battery and it started. Your project looks like it will keep you busy for a while though.

I did (for a second) think about putting a battery on it and having a go at starting it. But I had a nagging voice in the back of my mind shouting NOOOOOO.
Luckily, I listened. The key would not open the seat, so I devised a method to open it, I'm not going to put on here How i did it, you don't know who is reading).
I got the flat battery out and eventually removed the battery tray, it's very rusty. The live cable going to the relay, simply crumbled away from the relay post! One good reason for not attempting to start it with a new battery. I also discovered that the engine oil had leaked out over the years. Plus no brakes etc....so a very good decision indeed.

I could do with a bit of help with the rear brake calliper, My one has cleaned up ok (ish) im debating weather to use it again, my problem is that seal kits for the calliper don't look like the seals on mine. my calliper seals 'look' the same as a GSXR750 (1988-89). so im thinking that the calliper has been changed at some point.
My question is...can anyone confirm that it is actually a 750 one? it has 'B1' stamped on the housing (which can be seen in the calliper photo above). does anyone have a 750 (1988/89 year) to compare it with?
Thanks in advance.

That calliper looks the same as the rg500 caliper also used on the rg250 mk3 I have one somewhere. Just had a look it's the same as the 750/1100 slingy
