I could have done a straight swap but my 900 engine was missing some pieces. The oil pan I switched because I wasnt sure I could use my 750 exhaust with the 900 pan. The head work is being done just because haha.

Disassembled both heads, the rf900 intake valves are 1mm bigger so my my buddy cut my seats to accept the larger intake valves into the 750 head. The exhaust valves, springs, retainers and keepers are all the same on both heads. He also did some porting. we are going to use slotted cam sprockets and put another 750 intake cam on the exhaust side. Unfortunately the clutch on the 750 is totally different then the 900. I have a brand new clutch and springs in the 750, and the 900 clutch is whooped. Be aware that the 28mm in / 24mm ex valve from the RF900 are 96.70mm long and the in / ex valves on GSXR-750/1100 are 94.50mm... i got caught when I bought all GSXR-1100 valves to put in my RF big valves head. APE called me to tell me and had to get custom made valves from Ferrea ! Was like a kick in the nuts ! M.

We measured the length on both. The 900 valves were .007" longer. When we cut the seats on the 750 head to accept the 1mm over valves, we set the installed valve stem height the same as the old valves, no problems.

I wonder if the 1100 has the different length? I have a 97 rf900 engine, and a 93 gsxr750. The exhaust valves are the same part # for both models.

Head is all together and on the engine. Starting to wonder about jetting with the stock 38mm 750 carbs. I have a stage one dynojet kit, was wondering if I should go pods and stage 3?

Just another update, I put the 900 oil pan back on because I found a brand new 900 D+D exhaust im going to use. Didnt want to run into clearance issues under the engine. Ive read online guys use either iol pan so it shouldnt matter. Right now the engine is ready to put in the 750 chassis. Its got the 750 head and cams on the 900 bottom end and cylinders. Cams are degreed to 104.5 intake center lobe, 105.5 exhaust center lobe. Has the rf900 28mm intake valves. Had to cut the seats 1mm over, otherwise they were exactly the same as the stock 27mm. Same length (.01" longer), same springs, seats, retainers etc. Heads been ported. Dynatek 2000 ignition, coils, and wires. Brand new clutch and springs.

Still not sure what im going to do with jetting, and the airbox/filters. Id love to lose the box to make pulling the carbs easier, but I want the bike to run well also.

Could you not just use a complete rf900 engine with some new mountings?

The rf900r engine bolts in to the gsxr750 frame. The head will not fit under the gsxr750 tank because its downdraft style. The carbs sit above the engine and they would hit the tank. that's why peopl use the gsxr750 head.
