well having said my hello's I thought i would start a project thread. i have already started the build on an other forum (will post link if any one is interested in the previous work done), but thought i would start here from where i am up to now. bike is as i showed in my intro, but it is all coming apart again now to be done over properly and get the frame powder coated after getting it braced and welded up. couple of pics of frame after welding on bracing bars, engine mounting points, rear set mountings, steering stops, pillion peg mounts. please feel free to ask questions or offer advice, most of the frame strengthening was decided on after finding info from this here manner

today i set about making a spring compression tool so i could remove the springs from the GSX1400 shocks i had, after removing the springs I gave the shocks a good clean up and rub down, was impressed with how they turned out! the bottom plates on the gas cylinder and shock body were well rusty, most of that came off with a wire brush and then some rust removing gel, i will be giving them both a rust treatment and then painting them, springs and some of the seats will be going off for powder coating. removed the factory seal screw from the preload adjusters and re filled them with new oil, they now work over the full range of adjustment.

I have found someone parting out a 1978 GS 750 with V5 registration document, contacted him and asked for a price for frame and V5, he wanted £150. made him a counter offer, now down to last offer of £130 yesterday afternoon, he asked me to text him, have done and still waiting for a reply!!! bad bit is that he is in Southampton, around 300 miles from me, so will be a bit of a drive to go get it (probably classed as next door to you guys in the US ) fingers crossed he gets back to me. any one know of a GS frame with V5 closer than Southampton!!!! ?

Cheers Ash today turned out to be a much better day than i thought it was going to be, was very eventful, finally got the bill from my solicitor for the separation deed after my wife walked out on me! was expecting it to be a lot more than it turned out to be, i had kept a fair bit of cash stashed away waiting for the bill to come, and i am not now going to have to use it for that, so I have money to put towards the build. tonight i went on a bit of a spending attack on E-bay! i brought the Trans logic dash, an oil cooler, billet oil cooler mounting bracket, oil hoses and fittings for cooler and cam feed, a Giulairi seat from Italy, a clutch hose and i contacted Chaz at B&C Express to get some Renthal sprockets that will fit, also ordered a new 120 link 530 gold chain to go with the sprockets. so lots spent, smile on my face and finger to the wife

got the frame and a box of bits taken to the powder coaters, asked them to try and keep the vin plate in one piece, but wont be too big a problem if they dont manage it. I have taken lots of photos of it just in case i do need any proof of frame age in the registration process. was told the frame will be ready by next Fri latest. was like Crimbo all over again today, got a lot of the bits i had ordered through, well pleased as it didnt take very long. as usual B&C Express were first class in their customer service and with their speed of despatch, got the chain and sprockets from them first.
