Guys if you look at the rear caliper it is no way sat onto the rear disc correctly!!! the wheel came of a Hyabusa,. do they have a smaller disc than the GSX1400? I have checked the parts lists and they have different part numbers listed for the two bikes!!! Any ideas?

had another look at the wheel alignment tonight and measured from the center of the swing arm spindle to the center of the wheel spindle on both sides of the frame, got them both to measure 23" and with that set the wheel alignment marks are well out of true!! did a check of the wheel by putting a straight piece of wood down either side of the rear tyre, both came equal distance under the front forks at 190mm apart, so looks like wheel is straight, chain clearance is near as damit where it needs to be, but i will have to not take too much notice of the alignment marks when adjusting the chain.

i will have to not take too much notice of the alignment marks when adjusting the chain. those marks are usually way out. Not only on older bikes, but also on new stuff. Don't pay attention to them.

made some hoses for the oil feeds, got them fitted and then decided to try and fit the carbs, was a bit of a struggle, in the end i removed the rubbers from the head fitted them to the carbs then offered them up to the head, got them almost done. bit i did find out was that the oil feed hoses are just a fraction short! and will need taking apart and slightly longer hoses fitted, again not a biggie, just time consuming. carb fuel bowls are very close to the alternator, i managed to remove most of the paint on the top of the alternator housing trying to get the carbs into the rubbers.

looking great Steve, what year GS is it, Busa wheels are 6in I seem to remember you can only use a 5.5in wheel in the back of a early GS or the chain will hit the frame/alignment issues, cant remember where I read it

I did spread the frame at the swing arm mounting area to give me more chain clearance before fitting the swing arm. only one way to find out smiley-shocked003

today's fun revolved around seeing if i could attach the remainder of the carb rubbers to the head without removing the carbs that put up such a fight yesterday! removed the oil feed hoses, tried two or three different ways, but no joy, so it was off with the carbs, insert needed fasteners then attempt to re fit the carbs. two or three attempts and it was back into the house to "borrow" my daughters hair dryer :biggrinvk4: few minuets on full power, with rubbers now noticeably softer, carbs went on with only a feeble attempt at a refusal. lesson learned! use of warmth is a must when battling stubborn smooth bores. that over and done with i set about making the last of the engine mounting plates for the lower left mount. completed mounting the rear brake M/c to the rear set, finished off tonight swapping some engine & carb bolts for S/steel bling.

removed the clutch cover, other side cover, sump, pillion pegs and new engine mounting plate, and went to the powder coaters to drop them off. asked if they would do the clutch cover with the oil level window still in place, no was the answer! so got home with that case and went straight on to the web to see if the window was removable, well you can buy one on its own, so i guessed that it must be removable. had a play and managed to get it out without causing it too much damage, so there wont be a need for me to buy one just yet as i will re use this one. will take the case back to the coaters when i get the chance. while i was on the interweb i ordered a set of lower engine gaskets for when i get all the bits back all black and shiny

got the new longer exhaust adapters from my mate today, only had a few old bolts long enough to mount them, so did that to get an idea of the exhaust fit. seems to fit like a glove now, clears the cross brace and the left hand down tube. also fitted the side stand and mounted the front wheel so i could stand the bike on its wheels. exhaust is low, but dont think it will cause problems with normal riding, might just have to take it very easy when going up/down the curb though. stands very nicely on the side stand. as i had the headers on i built a mock up plate for mounting the oil cooler to check the fit. managed to get it in such a position that the iol hose joints wont get hit by the forks/yokes on full lock. it will sit around 15mm closer to the frame once fitted correctly, giving it more front wheel clearance.

went and collected the engine cases and sump from coaters, dropped off the clutch cover whilst there. just waiting for the gasket set to arrive and then i will re fit the cases. gave the front sprocket cover a coat of PJ1, looks real good. played around with fitting the oil cooler, gave up with the idea of making a mounting bracket, ended up fitting it with riv-nuts, much neater finish. E-bay fucked up and tank No two was refused passage on the airline arranged, so i have had my money re funded, went on e-bay and have ordered a tank from England, asked them to send it straight to the paint shop, got a slight dent in it, but it will pull out no probs i have been told by the painters.
