So this whole thing started with winning a prize in a raffle, which then led to smart decision of " I must get myself a Bandit 1200 / GSXR 750 / GSXR 1100 project bike!" Through the magic of Facebook and OSS, I ended up in contact with a very nice chap who had this unfinished project: Several phone calls later, bought blind as it was a fair bit away, it was delivered to me, along with several boxes of the various bits and bobs needing fitted to the bike. Some pics after it arrived and getting a bit of check over: So basic spec so far is: GSX-R 750 L Frame, Front end, Rear end & suspension GSX-R 1100 L 1127cc engine done approx 15k GSX-R 750 M Tank, rear panels and top fairing. Short term plans are to get it roadworthy and MoT'd. Long term plans are still to be determined by main driver for the project, as its still to arrive... Currently working through a list of jobs; Wiring missing for horn - now wired up and working No rear brake switch - waiting on a banjo pressure switch - cleaner and more reliable. No. 3 Float bowl leaking, has been araldited (or something in the past) - added some liquid metal to see if that holds. If not will need to find a replacement bowl. Clutch wont bleed. - fitted new seal kit to slave cylinder. Slave cylinder jamming against front sprocket - eventually worked out that pushrod was too short (90mm) and casing was from a 1052 slabbie. Slingshot casing and pushrod (101.5mm) fitted and clutch slave operating. Still to do: clutch not working - needs investigation, probably just needs freeing up Buy some indicators Wire up indicators Work out what else needs doings, its definitely one step forwards 2 steps back as I keep finding more bits and bobs to do! That's it so far!

Looking good.
Whenever I buy an "unfinished project" the first thing I do is disassemble it completely and inspect/clean/lubricate/adjust and reassemble everything, to be sure what condition it is in.
But that's just me. A simple spark plug change usually ends up with the engine out of the frame when I do it.

wee update, got the clutch freed up today, had to take all the plates out and separate, they were seized together.... Got my first drive round the street on it today after fixing the clutch, very quick and back wheel broke away on a twist of the throttle! Purple head caps will definitely go! Know what you mean about stripping down first before building, that will happen just waiting on the main reason I started this project turning up! Plenty of evidence that it was assembled properly before I got it - fresh grease around bearings and linkages etc. more work next week

A bit more progress, wired up the horn and a few other bits and bobs that weren't working. Waiting on new indicators and relay to arrive, then will get them wired up too. Did wheel alignment as well. Still need to get an new Neutral switch and side stand switch. Got the body work back on and polished. In the garage with my lightly modified SV1000 Outside after a quick polish up;

Quick update as its been a few weeks. The GSXR 7/11 now looks like this: why? this arrived a few weeks ago: A rather splendid HUC Savage frame arrived from those rather nice peoples at HUC. Its currently away getting the rearsets plates, oil cooler mounting plates and side stand mounting plate welded on. Should be back tonight, and then start a dry build at the weekend. Anticipating the electrics and unthought of bracketry being the biggest pains in the arse to come. Decided on the MVSA route, rather than using the donor GSXR V5 & no. plate etc, as its clearly not going to look like a GSXR, should I ever get a pull from a clued up plod. Having read the MVSA manual, I reckon headlight, indicators and exhaust being E marked / compliant etc could be an additional cost and I dont have anything suitable to hand.

Quick update, rearset plates, strap for oil cooler and sidestand plate all welded on. swing arm spacers made up, rear end fitted with gsxr 1000 shock. Phone kaput after rear end on, so dont have pics of weekends work - engine in, carbs on, front end and both wheels on, loom started.

Been a while since the last update. Things have changed quite a bit. Here's the brief summary: Got as far as dry build on the HUC - engine in, front end, rear end, loom etc all mocked up (very, very loosely!) enough to get th ebasics working and for it move under its own steam. Then wasn't sure, my conscience about the slingy I suppose. I really like the slingy GSXRs, so after much fannying about decided the donor 7/11 should be rebuilt properly. So 7/11 is being rebuilt from the bare frame upwards, replacing lots of missing or fooked bits and bobs. Currently sorting out some butchery on the loom, then its brakes, carbs, get it running again, then bodywork etc and an MoT. HUC frame is currently hanging from the garage roof looking pretty. I'll probably either sell it or look for a bandit donor in the future - a bandit donor will be easier to use (and avoid SVA), plus using a bandit wont give me a guilty conscience! Sorted for a camera again, so some buildy pics: pile of GSXR bits Engine painted, back in frame. rear plastic undertray on: shiney engine: back end getting there: De-butchering the previous loom butchery:
