hi
Just pressed a stem into a gsxr bottom yoke. it was definitely too big to fit before I started but after putting the yoke in the oven and the stem in the fridge it dropped in quite nicely. waited for it to cool and the stem is loose and I can rotate it in the yoke.
any advice on how to sort this. do I need to knurl the stem or is there another fix.
cheers for any feedback ...dirk

Usually need a few tonnes pressure to push out and press back in. Knurling may give initial bite but its overall grip will be considerably less than plain metal to metal friction fitted!

think I,m onto a looser with this yoke. if I buy a b12 bottom yoke with original stem will it fit into my gsx1100et without modification if I use ET bearings ? I know b12 ones wont fit as they are ball race not tapered but is the inner bearing diameter on the shaft the same.
cheers for any info...dirk

Eh? Why not just convert Bandit stem to taper rollers then - they are available!

Yo! Bandit stem is longer than et so will need wittling down. Approx 25mm from memory.

Timboab's correct! Re the Slabbie stem. Tight fit before heating yoke/cooling stem? You haven't fractured the bottom B12 yoke, by any chance?

An easy fix is to do what ive done on my Katana 750/1100. I've fitted the bandit front end/yokes etc, but fitted a tight stainless 18mm spacer on the stem, driven down to the bottom yoke, then put the bottom taper roller on top of this. Theres plenty of room to do this. You do lose a little travel on the forks, but its acceptable..
