hi all not sure if this is correct place to post this?
im looking for info on applying a turbo to mk1 b12 motor i have a very good low mileage b12 motor currently has stage 2 mtc lockup fitted apart from that internal are stock. im looking for reliability more than anything would like to use it all the time as normal everyday bike. can i run a turbo kit on stock motor only looking for low boost was looking on purchasing the race turbo kit from pro boost fi. what engine mods should i do to have the motor more reliable? i was thinking of thicker base gasket and hd studs? but how thick gasket should i go. im very new to turbo systems. i thought buy a kit to save all the headaches of building my own probly alot more expensive but its all there. anyone have any recommendations or someone in uk who could help maybe even build motor and turbo for me. cheers

3 words used that don't necessarily go together - Race / Turbo / reliability. If its a road bike and you want reliability you want a ROAD based kit. If you can stay sub 7 or 8lbs boost then stock cast pistons may just survive otherwise you really do need forged pistons and as no stock size turbo pistons are available, although JE may do some for you, its engine work / boring etc. Boost is addictive - many will testify to that so using proper pistons from the get go allows better boost range and opens up the range of turbos that will suit. I don't tend to recommend anyone usually but for an A1 ride in - ride out service see Dave Dunlop / FastbyMe - he'll see you right!

read my thread "1100M to be wizzy-popped", a lot of info there which also applies to B12's.
Basically you need forged lower compression pistons, clutch upgrade (which you already have) and a MLS head gasket.

I am running hayabusa pistons in my b12 which only cost 50 quid head gasket 50 and 100 for rebore at 12psi no problem. Was running with standard pistons before and it smashed the ring spacers on 2 of the pistons.

my own experience with stock pistons, with water injection, and pulling -5 degrees static timing, I was able to run 12lbs for one summer on 93 octane with several drag strip passes. but only lasted 2 days at 14 psi before breaking a piston. hope this helps

I am sorry but you are kidding yourself if you think 4-6 lbs will keep you happy, I think that will last for about 2 hours and you will want more boost, I believe as you ride your bike and get comfortable with it you only want more boost, and after that even more. i really do not think once you start there will ever be enough. again this is just my experience with my bike

i was only thinking of around 4/6 psi of boost. Think of it like this - 15psi = 2x NA horsepower....... 5psi = Extra / 3 .... so Stock 125hp, with turbo clogging up the exhaust it now becomes about 110hp x 2 - 220hp @ 15psi but yours will be 110 + 110/3 = 110 + 36 = 146hp which equates to a first oversize big bore, a jet kit and decent pipe and a saving of about £1000! It sounds daft but build it right first time - its easier to turn it down than turn it up if it ain't right!
