I'm wondering if I should do away with the standard airbox on my bike, and fit dual pod filters...When the Akraprovic was fitted, it was jetted to a set of dual pod filters (dyno stage 3) The guy I bought it from only used it for work in London traffic, and reckoned it was a pain in the arse to ride in heavy traffic. He fitted the standard airbox back on and played with the jetting till he thought it was right. It wasn't quite right, but not a million miles away. So, I'm thinking I may revert back to pods. It's going to BSD in a couple of weeks, they could whack a pair on, and jet it spot on ! Any thoughts ?

If you ride all weather keep the box and fit an after market insert filter

Nah, I only do warm and dry these days. It's got a K&N panel filter in it now..

I agree. recently wasted money on dual kn's, dyno tuning... excuse me "dyno tuning"... and a dynojet kit.
I'm not sure it matters that i'm using a dynojet kit or factory pro or holeshot. What I have is dynojet stage 3.
I'm pretty sure its jetted very well. it has no noticeable hiccups or flat spots "per se". BUT the throttle response in the midrange has sustained a noticeable deficit.
If I try to do a 3rd gear standup. A little whack on the throttle and you know... "stand up" It doesn't just pull from the midrange like a beast like it really should. Like it did with the airbox. It used to lift 3rd quite easily. Still havent tried too many times with the k&ns. But the once or twice I did try it was enough for me to take notice. If it wasnt for trying to pull the wheelies i may never have even noticed.
kinda hard to explain. it runs good, it pulls good, but its definitelly more "up top" now. That little bit of opening up in the top end is not worth the sacrifice in throttle response in the first 2/3
So it maybe has a couple more on top. but that immediate midrange grunt will be sacrificed. Take it for what you will maybe something's wrong with mine. But fwiw I think I't jetted pretty good and I wouldn't expect night and day differences with a different brand of kit.
I believe it had a holeshot stage 1 kit before. and the approximately 2 inch hole in the airbox. I should've saved my money. All in all it ran better stage 1. Proper vacuum and velocity and all that. Just cut about a 2 inch hole not much more or less than that. Somewhere near the stock hole wherever you think is best. And go stage 1 or 2 (depending on brand. the 2" airbox mod jet kit...)

Also this. When the bike happens to be sitting outsite and if any dust or pollen is blowing around. Instead of being safely enclosed in an airbox. Your filters are sort of putting on extra miles just sitting there now.
Riding in the rain is ok. Warm the bike up. Your knees cover the filters mostly ok. But again if you happen to be going to hang out somewhere and you cant bring your bike inside...

Washing the bike is an issue when with pods. Also torgue will "spread" wider when an after market "open" exhaust fitted and jetted and mostly when you gain on top you loose on low/midrange.

I used to fit pods to everything. Not any more. Some of the real old stuff had a few gains, but the japs got their act together on strangling airbox's and it hasn't been an issue for a while.
My GSX1400 came with 4 brand new pods in the box. That's where they still are.
I only use them if its a bike with no airbox's or where one is an issue. I NEVER use them on modern injected bikes.
They can be an issue in bad weather but I never had an dramas with washing the bike. Easy to put a carrier bag tightly over them when washing.
