Hmm, these were polished and now they are black ? what does this tell me? the bores look ok still without removing them to check for sure although for the price of a base gasket i may whip it off aswell.

Hmm, these were polished and now they are black ? what does this tell me? Carbon build up can be caused by a few things fella, anything that messes with the fuel/air mixture.. e.g oil getting past the piston rings or carb settings out (too rich). Oh and only ridin' for short distances can contribute to the problem too

Well looking in the bores they look good still with all the honing marks still looking freshly done. The rings are new and gapped. Would I see evidence on the bores if the rings were an issue again? I'm hoping it was just carburetor problems.

I'm hoping it was just carburetor problems. probably should have gotten the carbs ultrasonically cleaned sooner...may have prevented all this extra work......... ....I'll get my coat;-)

Well looking in the bores they look good still with all the honing marks still looking freshly done. The rings are new and gapped Would think the only thing that may've gone wrong with the previous rebuild is that the rings were put on upside down... it can happen... failin' that, I'd be lookin' at the carb side of things. Would I see evidence on the bores if the rings were an issue again? Maybe not.. if the rings had just been put on the wrong way?

I'll whip it off later today. I'm 99% positive I put them on correctly? still I've made some big booboos before I won't rule it out. If they are would they be fine just being refitted the correct way round.
