I'll be needing new tyres soon for my GS1000. Its running GSXR1100m wheels front and back. I've always used Metezeler tyres in the past. But shopping arond, Maxxis seem hard to beat on price. What are they like?

For supermoto good enough, but there is sliding welcome. Never used the on the road, more mischelin, dunlop man there. It was a winter test though by a lokal magazine about Nankang roadiac wf1 vs Dunlop D222 on a vfr and according to the riders wasnt bad, just less seccur and less feedback, duration of the test was 2 weeks, maybe that helps a bit

They are a budget tyre, they will work for you if you don't expect too much from them in any extreme. I'd prefer to go for an older version/model tyre from a well trusted make. I've got a set of Supercorsa pros on the shelf in me workshop, stored correctly, used on the track but perfect for the road if you're interrested and cheap. I was keeping them for myself, but to be honest I'm drowning in tyres for me own use.

I've just fitted a set of Avon Roadriders (as kept standard rims) on my Gsx1100ez, they seem ok for the money

I had them on a bike I bought a while ago & found them crappy all round until properly hot & they didn't inspire confidence even then, I lasted about a week before I changed them for pilot roads.
I found the pilots good all round in any weather & there are plenty of sets on ebay at about a tenner more than crappy maxxis so that's what I would fit again when on a tight budget

Fitted a Michelin Pilot Road 3 on the rear last week. Weather was real mixed over the weekend - sunny, biblical rain, sunny......drunk....and a bit more rain. Really impressed with them

Really impressed with them I use those as my wets (not allowed to use full wets in the class) grip level is extremely good, only the back started to let go under power out the corners, the front was very impressive on the brakes, lots of confidence. I would say these are a superb all round road tyre both for the dry and wet.

I used some Maxxis on my GS1000 with gsxr wheels and I hated them. Took for ever to warm up (and when cold, steel on ice has more grip LOL). Even when warm not much better... I do have some Maxxis Diamonds on the Kat (gsxr1100 motor and running gear) and they work OK. Can get the edges of the tyres blued and rippled You just need to get used to the sharp profile.

I used to run Maxxis on my Gix while I was broke, found them ok until pushed hard then had a few 'moments', as soon as I had a little more spare cash i went back to Bridgestones and the difference was like night and day! And I'm actually running BT 021's as my local dealer is doing them for £100 per tyre, fitted! Plenty good enough for a 20 year old bike anyway

been riding with maxxis supermaxx touring on my GSX750w for a few years now, havent found them any different to the metzlers or BT battlax that i used to run on bandit600 mk1, never had any issues with grip, in the wet, dry, or the cold,
