Has anyone here stripped down the alternator on an 1127 slingshot motor? How is it done (assuming it can be)? I've got large amounts of the engine being painted or vapour blasted and the alternator is going to let the rest of it down badly, want to get the casing blasted too but obviously need to get the bugger apart. Thanks in advance for any help.

Gear out and you should be able to get it apart, be careful though dont stress the casing might break

I've got everything off the shaft on the "engine" end (the nut, the gear and the spacer (for want of a better term)....so is it just a case of taking out the 3 screws and it comes apart with a tap?

Just be careful when you pull the armature free from the housing. The inside of the housing is magnetic and can attract the metal shafts to it with a bang which could do damage to the copper windings. Have a good grip with your fingers acting as a buffer against the inside of the housing and feed it with your other hand. Keep an eye out for the thin shaft washers and remember where they go.
