Tell you what this must be the 7th gsxr I have purchased in the last 20 years and I have had some right dogs.
Having had a good look around I cant see any sign of accident damage or any other nnasties anywere so it looks like one of the bearings has definitely popped out and caused the damage. The stem nut under the top yoke was finger tight might have been why the bearing popped out in the first place. The races look ok so replacing the bearings and races should sort it just glad I got the bike home from a 75 mile run in one piece
Mate, if everything else looks fine then it's highly likely that the stem bearings were the only issue... it certainly looks like a keeper this bike so got my fingers crossed for ya that you've finally found a good un....sounds like you deserve it!. Hope you get those bearings sorted soon so you can enjoy the Summer

there was no grease at all on those bearings? Or have you cleaned them for the pic?

There was plenty of grease on them even grease running onto the bottom yoke and onto the left fork makes me thing the last owner new of a problem but didn't no how to fix it and tried to sort it by squirting grease at it without removing the front end.

The old "if it's broke, just squirt some grease at it" trick eh smiley-rolleyes008 ... ya managed to find some replacements ok?

That's the races out and the gaug smoothed out unter the head stock sorted. The races have seen better days Next the bottom yoke lol
