Hi Guys I don't mean self harm because you`ve just been dumped/ rejected, the cats died or the beer`s run out or the pie`s gone cold. Has anyone else injured themselves out of frustration while working on their project? I am in the process of getting my b12 back on the road, this means fitting a new engine to the frame, simple enough you would think. But this has been a nightmare of a job, working alone without a bike lift, having to roll around the cold floor in the garage. Everything on the bike from removing the exhaust bolts , engine frame bolts. To fitting the new engine has been fighting me all the way. Now I have the engine finally bolted in I have been fighting to fit the carbs, into the carb rubbers. Get the inlet manifold rubbers partially on one side, then while lining up the other side, the first side comes away. Luckily my bro dropped in and gave me a hand. But now I`m having hag fitting the air box rubbers. ARRR! So frustrating to the point that I punched the metal cupboard so hard that I have sprained my wrist (previously broke in bike accident). So I guess I cant be the only one to hurt themselves. What you done? Any tips/ tricks on how you guys go about fitting carb rubbers

Cup of tea, a smoke and a half hour break works wonders fella... I get where yer comin' from tho' When someone says that building their bike took plenty of blood, sweat and tears, they're usually not jokin'

sounds like the rubbers are too hard. my mate crow barred his carbs on on his old slingshot lol. I hit my thumb with a rubber mallet when trying to free the head on my slabby & I sliced my knee open with a Stanley knife when building a cr 80 but never out of frustration.

oh and i like to soften rubbers with a hair dryer first. I don't like the boiling them method but the hair dryer should be ideal for you as it's the outlet rubbers.

A tiny bit of washing up liquid is what I've used before for carb fitting and never had an issue:-)
As for accidently hurting myself, banged my head loads of times, cut myself a few times and broke my toe once when I kicked something I shouldn't have lol

We've all been there fella. ha ha. You just have to be patient, these things are sent to try us and they very often do! Can't say I remember anything specific, but then that might be because of a bang on the head. I do have a hernia though, which was partly brought on by my efe engine, lifting that in on my own and partly due to my job at that time. You never stop whacking your hands, catching your fingers, cutting yourself on things that stick out trying to get your hands in tiny places. Setting fire to your clothes with the sparks off an angle grinder etc. Enjoy it all.

tried to pull a dowel pin out of a crankcase half with some pliers.
It came out, and the next two weeks I had a dot on my forehead.

Plenty of accidents including bashing my head on bars hard enough to need stitches, sticking a Stanley knife though between my thumb & finger hard enough to see it the other side, skinned knuckles many times when spanners slip & i've punched something. out of frustration I've had neighbours bring tools & bike parts back when I have chucked them & had to repair a stable door when I punched it hard enough to knock a board out but I'm better at walking away now

Plenty of accidents including bashing my head on bars I don't think there's a motocycle spannerman alive who hasn't bashed their head off a set of bars at some point or another.

Glad to see I`m not the only one to suffer/ do something stupid. Havn`t gone as far as throwing tools or bike parts, although I have put tools down one minute then can`t find them the next. On a plus note carb rubbers now all pushed on from inside the air box. Made easy as the wire mesh was already damaged enough to gain access, only hope the bike runs well when finally done.
