Anyone have any ideas as to the source of this noise? K6 B12, starts and runs fine, after a couple of minutes this noise begins. Had the tank off, and could only find the breather line off the airbox, replaced but made no difference. Not a great deal of experience with these engines, any suggestions before I get ripped off by my local garage? Thanks.

I agree with Havoc, does sound like starter motor not disengaging, try starting the motor up and pull the fuse out of the starter relay, see what happens? or pull the fuse and bump it , see if you still get the noise ,maybe try a GENTLE tap on the starter motor as well. oh yeah , see how hot the starter motor is after running for a while, if its bastardly hot that might be the problem

Ok, so if it was the starter would the noise not be there as soon as started up? Noise only starts 2-3 mins after the engine has been running.

Noise changes with engine speed, does it change when you pull the clutch in? What about if you put it in gear? These sort of diagnostics are near on impossible without the bike in front of you Get a large screw driver and place it against your ear and press the sharp end on various parts of the engine to see if you can locate the origin more accurately. Try closing your eyes and picture what should be happening behind that particular casing, some times you can 'see' what's wrong with your ears.

If it is re-engaging, or being dragged around mechanically, whether it's receiving electricity or not would be irrelevant. It would be to do with the starter clutch

Have you tried to eliminate any of the above? As the motor gets warm things expand, check your wiring/relays, might explain why its coming on after a few minutes . Have you tried what havoc said with the screwdriver and pinpoint the noise?

Sounds very odd that. I'd be inclined to look for an air leak somewhere, can't imagine it being mechanical, never heard a relay chirp like that either, especially as it changes when you rev the engine.
It sounds to me either a pulse of air is being sucked in through split rubber causing the squeak, or it's being pushed out.
I would check the battery too, batteries can and do some very strange things when faulty/pressurised/ over charging etc.
Check you spark plugs are tight too, it could be gas escaping from around the thread.
