Thought I'd share a few pics I took of me GSX today before I started pullin' bits off. What a fookin mess eh, think the only finish that hasn't really suffered is the paint on the bodywork and frame... the proper chrome plated bits, the chrome "effect" plastic parts and black anodised(?) ally bits, are all gone. Really pissed about the engine, I thought it would just need a damn good clean but there's corrosion all over the cam cover and it continues down onto the head... *sigh*. Mickey mouse & Co decided to set up home under me seat and have destroyed anything made of foam rubber... battery box cushioning, air filter element, seat cushioning strip. Also noticed some chewed wiring, can only hope that's confined to that one area. Pitted bars, mirrors, fork legs... blah, blah, blah.

Looks like it's been stored in a salt cavern for some time... Yeah man... I'm pretty gutted about the condition, didn't realise it was so bad Hard to believe how a bike once so tidy, could end up looking so bad just because of damp air. Really wonderin' if I should cut my losses and sell but I don't know what I'd buy to replace her.... gonna do a bit more poking around today and see what I think.

Give a good clean see what's worth saving fella I've seen worse I agree mate, I've restored incomplete and far rustier bikes in the past. I was expectin' plenty of graft in the months ahead but I'm just not sure if I'm up to stuff like hand polishin' ally... don't have a buffin' wheel set up so would have to use me old method of using gradually finer grades of silicone paper. If I could afford to send everythin' to the blasters, coaters, polishers and platers.... I don't think I'd be half as pissed as I am. Look on the bright side...the header pipes look like new:-D it's weird how there's no corrosion at all on some things. I reckon this is what MCN mean by "patchy" finish in the review they did of the bike. You very bad man, you should be ashamed of yourself. yeah I know man, but don't worry, if I do decide to carry on with this... I'm gonna more than pay for me sins. Crikey, you got your work cut out there zoomy. Even if you strip and clean the parts that are salvageable, it's still gonna cost ya I have indeed mate. As I mentioned in an earlier thread, I've spent the better part of a year preparin' for this by selling loadsa stuff on the bay... I've got just shy of a grand but even that ain't gonna fix *all* the corrosion. It would be very easy to put that towards another bike but I want this fooker!!!!. I know the bike's history and that its mileage is genuine. smileywtf They sure don't make 'em like they used to do you're dead right fella, bet if this had been an old GS it wouldn't look half as bad.

What about the availability of secondhand parts for the really bad stuff ? also think about using secondhand parts from other models.. Stuff like indicators and handlebars etc are cheap and easy to replace. You can do it mate if you're that determined mate !

Stuff like indicators and handlebars etc are cheap and easy to replace. You can do it mate if you're that determined mate ! Had problems finding some of the shiny stuff in good nick because those are the first parts to look shabby on these bikes. There are pattern clock tops and bottoms on ebay Germany but can't really stretch to those. Will take a closer look at Bandit and Teapot parts later tonight and see what kinda things are shared with them... good call tho' Dave. Parts like the indicators will clean up no probs and I wuz thinkin' about getting some ally fat bars... Renthall do a set of 7/8ths bars in stainless too.... would love to replace as much as I can with stainless bits for obvious reasons!. This calls for.............. RATTLE CAN BLACK !Hahaha... damn!, that's what I love about this place, no matter how crap I feel, I know I can come 'ere and someone will cheer me up... you guys are the fookin best!. Rattle can black?... don't think THAT hasn't crossed my mind Bluedog I did that with me 650 Kat before it came off the road for a proper rebuild and fancy cammo paint job. Agree there...the forks for instance look very much like bandit6 items Good point mate, they also look eerily similar to 750 teapot forks too... hmmm, made a note to check the bay later, see if I can find some in good shape. Thanks guys for all yer support
