Done a few miles on the bike today with swmbo on the back. It's fitted with a new Hagon shocker which is too haed, even for 2 up riding. I looked on the Hagon website to see about adjusting it, on there it says it's best to remove the shock before any adjustments are made, is this the only way to do it ? I don't fancy taking it off on my own... Also, is it just a case of slackening off the big castle nut on the top ?

No biggybag I guess. I think it would be the same as mine. The big spring nut will affect/ change the bike,s height, depending on fastened or losser. On the base mount of the shock it should be an allen key bolt, that is the adjuster of the IN and OUT damper.

Typical Hagon then I had one on a slingy & had similar problems, it was ok 2 up which effectively doubled the weight carried but solo it was like a hardtail I eventually spoke to a guy at the hagon stand at the nec & he emailed me their stock measurement for spring preload (big top nuts), when I got home & checked it was wound right down & had come new from the factory like that, maybe a cockup but I've heard it a few times now I also checked the rebound damping (allen key)& that was as their stock spec Phone or email them & they will tell you what their base settings should be then you can work from there

Well, fair play to the team at Hagon. I emailed them this morning, and less than an hour later I got this..
Hope this can be of help.
Your Hagon Monoshock will give long and reliable service if fitted correctly.
Before fitting ensure all frame parts are in good working order and linkage bearings move freely without excessive play.
Check the unit you have purchased has the correct end fittings for your motorcycle.
After fitting check all wires and cables or pipes are clear of the unit.
WARNING: your Hagon shock is pressurised and should not be dismantled.
SPRING PRELOAD ADJUSTMENT
Hagon monoshocks have a wide load carrying range and are pre-set for average rider weights. To adjust spring pre-load, release the locking grub screw and rotate the adjuster ring. One full turn should give around 1.5mm alteration in pre-load. For most bikes, aim to achieve a rider sag figure of between 20 and 30mm, though individual rider preference should determine the best setting within this range.
Do not exceed 10mm increase as the spring may shorten or coil-bind. Be sure to re-tighten the lock screw, this screw is rubber tipped so do not over tighten.
Remote pre-load adjustment monoshocks
Turn knob clockwise to increase pre-load for heavier riders/luggage.
DAMPING ADJUSTMENT
Your shock is supplied with medium damping adjustment.
After fitting your shock, adjust the damping to suit individual preference by turning the hexagon socket screw in 1/4 turn increments until the required setting is achieved. Turn clockwise to harden, anti-clock to soften. When adjusting to a softer setting the unit must be worked before the adjustment will take effect. Firm resistance will be felt at the limits of adjustment, do not use force on the adjuster screw
* Thought I'd post this as it may be of some use to others *

Useful but still don't tell you what their stock base setting is for the preload or rebound which is what you really want to know especially if its been messed with before or they got it wrong at the factory which does happen
I'd mail them back & ask for a measurement on the spring & a turns in or out on the rebound explaining that it may have been previously messed with & you need a base to start from

Had a play earlier, and managed to soften it a bit. Feels ok riding on my own, not tried it 2 up yet.
