So it can be kept as an archive for reference to info then as long as it's not running as a 'sister forum'.

it seem,s to me thing,s have changed again ? site closing we move ? new oss site join or dont join we dont give a f-ck ?? we can have this site but have to change the name [wife call,s it old sad sucker,s]........ is the new site going to be run with a iron fist ? yes i was on the first oss site , and it was very clickie ............. the people on here prefer a forum rather than face fu*k ? i just want a site where i can get help when i need it spare,s to buy and sell and have a laugh life is to short for for this...........i did ask john bear is the fb page being locked ? yes ? i was told so is that being given to who want,s to stay there and have oss removed ? this is making a divide ............. [ my veiw ].......... i was... am looking forward to the new site.......... it does seem a few are making decisions for the majority....... i am not a sheep......................................Good greif. Last year when we first discussed the new site returning with Ash. I laid this option on the the table fas an alternative to becoming part of OSS. It has never been discussed again. The first time it has been mentioned again is in this thread. It would appear that despite the fact that Ash started the thread of his own volition that's our fault too. So the plan is this temp forum gets locked and is referenced from the new site. The facebook group gets locked and used for Admin posts only. I hope this is clear.

How about keeping this forum for people who like messing with water & the new version on the original OSS for proper OSS bikes air or oil cooled ?

Scott, I don't think that is correct. I don't recall it being discussed last year that the forum could continue under a different name, you suggested it to me in a message on the 28. May 2015. As I stated I hadn't given it any thought before you mentioned it. I started this thread as I have been messaged by members asking for this forum to continue. I know it can't continue under the banner of OSS and I don't know if it should, I will take account of the feedback from members and then make a decision on it's future.

I like others have tried to stay out of the argument about closing this and opening that.
My only concern would be on said opening day with such a large influx of usage (registration of members), is there going to be another site crash like the original OSS, what if any procedures or steps to prevent this have or will be implemented.
I keep no secrets and would admit to have given several donations to the old site, but are we going to see another episode or same series of events again ??, if there's anything we could do to prevent such event happening i for 1 would like to hear about it beforehand, wether it be monetary or just voluntary time input ??
As most of us know there was a lot of ferkin good info, and i presume or hope most of the essential info could or has been saved ??
Are the new servers free hosting or paid for ?? and is there enough space for the expected growth increasing over the years ?? or is it capped resulting in deletion of unwanted threads ??
I accept these are subjects that some may not like to discuss but my concerns are purely for the return of a more stable OSS.
As for the original question could the existing sites be temporarily locked in-case of site crashes ??
I'm not trying to rock any boats just trying to prevent past site problems from rising again !!

Apologies Ash I had thought it was earlier than that. nonetheless I always expected that there would be some members that would not want to change what was comfortable and familiar. That's why I put that option on the table
How many PMs have you had as a percentage of your membership? Is it a significant number? Is it enough to sustain an independent forum ? I suppose these are the issues to consider.

let's just wait till the new site is active for one or two weeks, then people have seen/used it and will be able to decide.

The sensible thing to do is run both in tandem until we are happy that we can give the majority of those who are active a willing to move over ample time and oportunity to do so.
The new site is remotely hosted and we have ample bandwidth and Storage capacity.

Been there with another forum i verbally helped revive and under estimation (3rd party) did exactly the opposite purpose. yes it was rectified fairly quickly phheeewwww

I was on the old site, I've been on this site. The old OSS was good most of the time, but went downhill a bit towards the end. This site's good but I haven't had the time or access to get on much for quite a while. If the new/old OSS turns out to be crap it'll die on it's arse. If it's good it'll go from strength to strength. Until it's set up no one will know for sure. Whatever the outcome no one will get hurt. Before the internet people had friends and owned motorbikes. They managed to keep in touch with friends and repair their bikes. Just sayin'
