Was there any noticeable wear on the basket both inner and out, notches that could catch the plate edges?
How old are the springs there bud?
Old things need constant work, expect women, they need it from birth.

You can always take a file to the notches in the basket to clean them up

If the levers spongy there is air in it

clutch basket is ok. 2 friend,s looked at it when i stripped it........... both i trust there word.... not many i do ? when i bleed the clutch it feel,s right if i leave it say a hour . you can pump it up ? eg like there is air in it ? two pull.s then it,s there..... i have three types of bleed method ? reverse bleed with light pressure to pull it out...............pressure bleed too push it out...... and a pipe on the bleed nipple with a 1 way valve in it.......... i have done all three and it,s the fu**i** same ................. it,s too warm for this sh*t......... smiley-shocked029

Had no end of shit lately bleeding brakes through .ended up taking the bleed nipple out and just pumping , messy but got enough air out to bleed properly , not the first time I've used this method out of desperation but it works .

if you can get the slave cylinder off and clamp it you could try tie wrapping the lever overnight, if you get pressure back, it was air, if you lose all pressure you have a leak. at least you'll know what you're looking for.

Try taking out the bleed nipple and clean out the holes with a pin and compressed air. Then try bleeding it again. The nipple might be partially blocked and the air in the line might be under intense pressure giving the feeling the clutch line is bleed. Bleeding a clutch line is a 5 minute job if everything is clean and tight. The clutch push rod sometimes wears a little over 20 years of being hammered shut. Maybe try making one from some stainless rod a mill or two longer and see if things improve.
