if the resurrected site is half the old site it will be worth it. the place used to buzz with projects and builders helping each other out. it was the place to go if you wanted something suzuki, be it info or something in the darkest recesses of numerous members' sheds. i've bought, sold and given away stuff on here and if it's going to a suzuki project i'll do someone a favour if they (or any member) does similar. i'm not going to give an engine away but i'll pass on a deal if i can on here rather than ebay. the pox on prices was banned from the old site if i remember and it was better for it. enthusiasts "swapping" good fortune instead of chasing the coin. i'm old so forgive the rant but give it a chance.

I actually started this thread as a bit of a micky take but it appears quite a few people want to say things. I'm quite prepared to give the new site we are being ushered to a chance. What I don't like is the way it appears that a small group of people have got together off stage and decided what they want to do, set it all up behind the scenes and then finally told everybody else what is happening, all done and dusted. We're told that we're shutting down, what names we couldn't be if it did carry on etc etc. Who decided all that then because I think the numbers say a small few are trying to tell the many what to do and they're taking their ball with them. Did any of this little junta think to ask the proletariat or would that have just raised petty objections to the plan ? Couple that with the feeling that some Mods of late seem to be rather curt with their comments and quick to lock threads which raise a voice of dissent and I don't like the attitude I'm smelling in the wind.
So come on those "in the know", could we have a full explanation of who ? What ? When ? etc Because I, and it appears a few others. don't like being told what to do. I was expecting this thread to quickly get deleted or locked but I think it best if it's not now. Wouldn't look good would it ?

I thought about deleting this thread, because I thought "shit not this discussion again". Everything you asked has been explained already at least once. Read the other threads about the future of OSS and you will find the answers.

A typical politician type answer, none. Just the usual statement directing you to somewhere else for answers, they know the answers aren't there but it gets rid of the question and they can go "Oh no, not this again" when people have to re-ask. Alway handy to throw in a few FAQ's (the ones nobody ever asks).
So: Who's running this change ? Who put them in charge ? Why didn't they ask if people wanted it ? What is the deal that has been put together (out of sight) ?
So come on, 'fess up because it's the dictatorial manner things are being done in that whiffs.

to be fair BD59, Captain Chaos is an old OSS stager with more than a small right to dictate the way the new site operates. if you don't remember the site of a decade ago I can understand your trepidation but honestly it was THE site to go to and CC and a few others (FBOB and Strangewayz off the top of my head, apologies to those I can't dredge up at this time of the morning) were THE go to people for info, if it wasn't in the vast archive then there was always someone to guide you along. CC is no politician, he's too honest, LOL. the style of the old site was little moderation unless needed and it was a very few who buggered it last time, arguments over money being the main bone of contention if I recall. I, for one want the old OSS spirit back, this site doesn't have the numbers of the old site and if it tempts them back I'm all for it. sorry, just my opinion.

No, that's all fine Gix. I understand about the old site etc, I was on it. It's the way it's being dished out that I question, dropped on us as a done deal. It's a struggle to get any straight answers.

they did give us 28 days to come to terms with it BD. for me it was what I've been waiting for, there's something like 200 members here, the old site had 2000+, the more the merrier. I noticed banofee is a mod here but you rarely see him contribute and I miss his rather curious love of all things brown, strangewayz puts his GS thou on now and again but it used to a weekly update whether he finished the beautifully crafted rear spendy adjusters or cut a fillet of metal to be welded. I could spend hours trawling the old site and the info was invaluable (it would save me from asking dumb questions). the last thing this or the new site needs is cliques, it's about our love for suzukis that counts, not "He said, she said" bollox. The move to the new site has been mooted in the past and as CC says it's not exactly a surprise.

There are over 2,200 members to this forum and while a lot haven't posted anything (I think they must be shy) on a daily basis we get around 140 signed in members looking and posting to the forum and around 5-600 unsigned in or guests viewing.
OSS is a lot more than just a forum there are pages and pages of information from the old site out there. A small amount is now in the information section of this forum, but a lot more is being transferred over to the new site.
A small dedicated team and I'm not including myself in this, have spent a lot of time, effort and their own money setting the new OSS Website up and bringing it into the 21st Century.
Not all members of this forum may be happy with the move, but everyone should give it a chance, you may like it.

But it's still presented as a "done deal" with little or no information on the whole deal. A small group deciding what the pawns want without asking.

Who's running this change ? Who put them in charge ? Why didn't they ask if people wanted it ? What is the deal that has been put together (out of sight) ? Katanamangler, Banoffee, ReneEFE and Jelly. PP and Mr 7/11. Because they own OSS. They don't need your permission. No deals, just what has been said before. Good enough answers? You could have read them yourself.

The British bike industry didn't NEED the public's permission about what they built and felt apart because they didn't bother asking.

the British bike industry failed due to lack of investment and an inability to move forward with the world because of conservative (uselessly entrenched) management. it rested on it's laurels and paid the price, I hope CC et al are going to evolve rather than stagnate. That's my wish anyway.
