After 35 years and god knows how man owners, the carbs on my '80 1100ET have had their day. Everywhere seems to have various size threads (or lack of) everything seems very worn, tired and bodged.
What are my "easy" replacement options ?
Not after monster flatslides / ultimate horsepower etc, just a replacement ?
Really I like the original airbox and standard fitments, not keen to go to "pod" filters. I will go that way, along with different inlet rubbers if I have to but not keen.
I'm sure my mate tried my old Kat carbs on his 1100R Lawson Rep but then im back to finding and using bits that are just as old / worn / rare.
Dont mind playing with jets / settings / rubbers if i have to but not much more on this bike.
Anyone had any experience with using anything less than 35 years old! or more readily available ?
Thanks. Tony.J.

Anything different from OEM carbs will lead you onto the non-airbox-way. Saying that - my first attempt in fitting 36er Gixxer carbs about some 20 years ago included the stock airbox. Lots of fettling about with fixing the oval gixxer rubbers into the box. Lots of welding plastic with a solder iron and loads of hot glue included. But it did the job at last.
Later on I found it nicer to get rid of the airbox using K & N dual pods. That's indeed the easier solution.
As for possible carb models: if your engine is more or less stockish, any oil-boiler 36er CV carb will do nicely. I tried a 38mm CV in the past but found the 36 better for street use. You won't need different inlet rubbers on those btw.

I have run an 1100et on 34's from a teapot 750 or some such with ramair foam filters & it was fine after a little fettling until the very top of the rev range so if I were to do similar again I would go with 36's as pedda suggests

Thanks.
Yes, I was hoping carbs off something like a teapot or similar had close enough spacing and depth that I had a chance of using the airbox, for looks and originality as much as anything else. Not keen on doing pods / K&N's on this one.
Thanks Guys.

Spacing is the same on the air cooled & oil cooled motors but there is no chance of getting the airbox to fit without major work as pedda described, the only other thing I have tried is to use the sides & parts of a stock box to make a cover for the filters
