that motor looks shweet ...... is the gloss black casings 2-pac Alan? The gloss black is powder coating by Triple S. AT Blackat arranged the crinkle finish on the valve cover. John at Pitstop Paint painted the cases, awesome job really helped me out, I knew that once the engine was built up not much of the red would actually be seen but i did get a few funny looks along the way... here's some pics of just the cases...

Just trying to do the decent thing at the moment & get Porky's Katana frame back to him, I've planned some time in later this year to work on my own stuff. Fair play, Cant wait to see it finished, have been following this build for years now

Actually did some work on this over xmas, finished the chain cut outs in the frame which were more difficult to do than normal... As I designed the swingarm pivot to be adjustable (spindle location can be moved up & down) there is more variation in where the chain run could be.... just meant I had to use the grinder longer to chop more out !
Also finished some of the bracing, have some pics when I have time to upload them.
Trying to get some done on this most weekends now to get it finished !!

Pics of the frame tubes that I have clearanced for the chain run aka chain cuts... In some of the pics they don't look very pretty but then they rarely do at that stage in the process At this stage I had cut the frame tubes out for the chain run, used 1/4 sections top & bottom for the curves, used 1/2 moon shapes next to the curves inside the frame tubes & started to honeycomb or lay pieces of smaller diameter tube to brace between the moon shapes which does the job of internally braces the frame tubes in the area of the chain cuts. The above pics were not all finished they were just in progress pics, once all the internal bracing had been done I made & fitted the face plates. Last time I had worked on these was xmas 2012 !! & I must have been merry... as my spindle hole is slotted for adjustment the chain cuts need to be larger to allow for different positions of the swingarm & of course chain run. The picture above did not allow clearance for the lowest position of the spindle so I had to redo the bottom part of the chain cut above the spindle position, as follows. With the arm fitted in the lowest spindle position. The plate with studs welded in is for my Harris adjustable rearsets, due to the chain cuts I could not have bolts or nuts protruding so welded studs was the way to go. Hey I'm back !!

I love your custom welding work and I am drooling at your lathe... I would love to own one of those someday, I am planning to purchase used tig or mig machine within few months and I have machine shop at my company that I can access in my own time.
The colors on engine cases are fantastic, best way to show off your engine! Can't wait to see the finished product, keep up the good work

The red of the cases matches the red of the paintwork on the tank etc, was trying to get a bit of a hotrod V8 look by having the cases red, etc.. Good luck with buying a welding machine, I'd say get a tig if you can !! Of course depends what you want to use if for but I could not do some of the stuff I have using only mig.

Heck yeah I love the hot rod look in minimalistic way.. Are you going to add any more fairings like belly pan or something like that? Just figuring out what end product would actually look. Do you have front end shot, wondering what that contraption (headlight) looks like? lol. Are you going to leave that ride height or going to lower it for more badass hotrod look with thicker tires? Since you have extended swingarm, planning for any more power in the future? I would love to get TIG, it can do almost anything including custom turbo exhaust manifolds and plenums I always wanted to build I will keep an eye on tig machines, I was practicing myself with oxy torch and aluminum rod welding the bottom of soda aluminum cans together and I did it fairly well. Thanks for the advice!

It's a shame the old OSS site went down as there were loads of fabrication pictures for this project. The base of this bike is a GSX750ET, if you google images for that you will see what the bodykit looks like. I like to max out a frame & keep most of the stock body kit to preserve the dna feel of the bike. So the front headlamp, headlamp cowl, tank, rear tail & light are all stock GSX ET, I have used GSX1100EFE clocks which did require a bit of cutting & plastic welding to the headlamp cowl to get a real good fit. Reference the ride height, GSX750ET are twin shock & I put a lot of work into the monoshock conversion on this bike. The swingarm pivot is slotted for adjustability (the spindle can be moved + - 5mm from stock), the top shock mount is also adjustable & it used a WP triple clicker rear shock. The chain cut outs shown in the post above are to allow the use of a 6" rim in this frame, I will be using a 190 tyre. Main purpose of the drag extension was to actually reduce the wheel base as it was too long. That's to say I like the look they gave but the arm was cut shorter before they were welded in so that the minimum wheel base position of the rear wheel spindle started closer to the engine. So the geometry of this bike is aimed towards quickening the steering so that it can be thrashed down back lanes.. Engine is big bore 1230cc, flowed big valve head, cams, RS38's estimate from the tuner is at least 150 bhp at the rear wheel. The Hot Rod vibe is also a play on some of the Yoshimura Suzuki race bikes of the late 70's early 80's AMA racing being called 'Hot Rods' as they were more go than show. As I continue posting pics up of the build going together a lot of this will make more sense. You need to make sure you get a tig set that you can also weld alloy with, I would suggest for what you want to do. Gas welding is good practice for tig as similar in holding heat source in one hand & filler rod with the other.
