battery mint. thort of solanoid, works fine untill it gets warm and then really just clicks. if i put it into gear and turn it over, so the bike jumps forward it seems to engage the starter. cleaned the starter twice but dont make a difference. think ill buy a solanoid first cos i recon it will be cheaper. Really im a bit stuck. its well embarasing when it dont start . i look a rite twat. if i wait ten mins for it to cool down it starts fine again. thanx again.
Pedda answered: Once I had a similar fault. It turned out to be the flat babbit cable inside the starter having a hair thin crack. I suppose it appeared by over-turning the +connection bolt outside. A little soldering helped here. As long as your starter relais does a "click" every time, it's supposed to be ok. In case you really need a new starter motor, try a GS 500 which is much cheaper 'cause no rocking horse poo and put the internals into your EFE starter motor shells. Kawa GPX 750 internals are said to be another option.
Alternatives: gsx750 es etc fit also bud
gpx750 starter does fit but you have to change the end casing , had one on my bike for a couple of years now
GS500 internals work fine. Just have to use the end cap from your EFE

And then later, out of nowhere, this reply from OP:
Its been a long time since i started this thread. I had my starter rewound because ther windings were braking down when hot. Cost £140 Didnt make fuck all difference. Still didnt start when it was hot. Decided to have a strip of the motor , just to have a look. Shock Horror The top end was being starved of oil . - The sump filter was blocked with Gasket rubber shit. When the motor was hot the cams were efectivley seized solid. When cooled the cams could turn. The cams and the head / cam caps were fucked beyond repair. I bought another motor and took off the cams and head. Built the motor up and it runs Mint. Moral of the Story - Clean out the sump filter every 20 years or so. Before anyone asks i do have some engine spares but NO heads. Not even knackered ones!

Found a nice hint on starter interchangeability. If you can't find a EFE starter motor, just change part # 12611-49202. That's part # 1 in the pic below. That'll make an average GSX or GS starter fit.
