Turned the ignition on & nothing, completely dead? I thought the battery needed charging but it wasn't that. Checked the fuse & thats ok. played around with the button looking thing under the battery, cleaned the earth, cleaned a couple of connectors but nothing? Can't think what could have happened as i've not touched the electrics?

You are gonna need a diagram and a meter. Open up the ignition switch and prove/disprove you have voltage coming in and going out.
Found a diagram for a newer model, don't know if it will help. Looks like the switch has 6 wires. When turned on; red connects to orange grey connects to brown and orange with red connects to black with white

I have a multimeter & a thing with prongs & lights my sparky mate gave me but i don't understand things that get readings from my tounge lol. Yes fully charged batt, all fuses ok. I don't know what i was doing but i stuck a prong on the live on the battery & the other on each solder blob on the ignition barrel but it means nothing to me??
I stuck the prongs on the loom plug for the ignition & got readings through them then when plugged it into the ignition got readings from them blobs.

Not sure... based on crappy internet scan and based on a later bike.

Still don't know what i'm doing. I read about ohms & putting the prongs on the ignition wires so i set the meter put the prongs on 2 red wires on the ignition & the needle went across, switch the ignition & it goes back to zero so does this mean the switch is working?? as i said i'm a complete doofus with electrical testing so i need to find a video tutorial

double check the earth from battery to engine and that circuit breaker you mentioned just push it down

Checked the earth 3 times, I don't know how to test the circuit breaker? I pushed it as it looks like a button but should I feel it kind of pop/click? It's solid. I have my mates slingshot but it needs so much stripping off to remove it to put on mine & his is solid too but he has power.

Tried a working breaker, cleaned all the earths again another 2 times, went round with a thing that beeps but I don't know what I'm doing and it's still dead.

I don't know what I'm doing and it's still dead. Bring it to someone who knows what he's doing.

Nothing has defeated me yet on the bike so i'll continue. This time i put the earth prong on the battery neg & the red prong i poked into the back of the ignition connector & they were reading 12v. I put it on the wires on the ignition barrel & again 12v when ignition on then zero when off. I get the same result though if i touch the red prong on the frame/engine etc. What does this mean??

Goodness.... I had this..... friend of mine came round with a little hammer..... got me to push the start button while he kept tapping the starter motor with a hammer. Its a terminal corrosion in the starter motor issue.... and his tapping cured it!
