Searching for help on the 'net I found your forum. Seeing this is my first Suzuki and I'll need y'all for advice and experience I joined because I have a LIST of questions. I have an '83 GS1100 that sheared the starter clutch bolts but I can NOT get it off the crank shaft. I've put as much torque on the gear puller that I am comfortable for 24 hours with healthy doses of PB Blaster and tapping to no avail. Part of me wants to put an impact wrench on it but the rest of me is SCREAMING "Are you Nuts?!? That's the CRANK" How do I get this apart?

I don't know about any one else but I get the puller tight then hit the centre stud on puller with a hammer the shock normally gets them off

You will be very lucky to remove it with out the special tool...... Your Local Stealer may lend it to you for a deposit if they still have it... and if you put your location on profile someone close may be able to lend you one...

I have that tool, for a different model. The spline is a different diameter :-(

Hi, buy or borrow the correct puller for your model. Try a company called P SEAGER eng ,they make the correct puller for the job,do NOT use the type in the photo, you will wreck the rotor. When you get the correct puller put it on as tight as possible, lock the rotor to stop it turning then tighten the centre nut with a long spanner(iused a 2 foot long power bar), tighten as much as possible, then give the bolt head a good wack with a hammer, tighten nut again, repeat till it loosen. wala.

There are two sizes - GS1100 and GS1150. The correct puller does make it 'easier' as you can use impact gun on it - they usually come off with a right old 'crack'!

Thanks all! I'll get the right tool. Last question: I locked the crank to remove the end nut with leather shoelaces in the cylinder. Can I torque the motor backwards to lock it for tightening the bolt on the removal tool or is there a better method?
How do y'all lock the motor? I have no Center stand, it was removed for weight.

It was more than seconds, even more than minutes, and even after cranking 110psi into my rattle gun (EXCELLENT new vocab word, thanks gammaboy!) it still didn't come off without a few serious wraps with a 36oz sledge. But it's off! Thanks to you all.
