Like it or not I use a M head on my 1460, originally built as a turbo at has billet Krol cams ground for it - so they are available, just not widely. I had one on my 1186 NA with std cams and i've never had a spat shim - but I never over rev'd it either enough to get valve float - avoid that and it'll live for years! Just my personal experience helping to muddy the waters! LOL

Good input katana ! That's a BIG engine - now that would be good for loads of torque. The M and N heads are good, it's just high lift cams and higher revs than the 1100 manages that might cause a problem - that said a guy on GIXXER.com has a very expensive 955cc 750 engine in his M and said he's not had a problem (makes 150hp and revs as high as standard) - not sure I'd be that brave ! He checks it over every couple of years as you would a race bike.
