I need to replace the cams on my GSX1100ET and was wondering what is the most cost effective way of doing it. I am about to send my cams of to Kent cams who were recommended. Both the cam faces and journals need attention. I was just wondering if anyone knows what is the most cost affective way of doing it, or any companies beside Kent cams who could help. Thanks David.

Can't be sure but usually if the journals are worn the cams are scrapped - some companies might metal spray them so they can be re-ground but it'd be easier just to get un-worn / damaged journals. Any good engine builder will give advice and favoured cam grinders.

If the cams are badly worn on the lobes you will need new or refaced rocker arms also. If the cam journals are badly worn you will also have similar wear in the head & cam caps which will need sorting. None of it is cheap either. Nick

Weld stellite on the the affected areas and re grind to an existing profile template - Phil joy ( local to here ) is the only person I know of offering this service

Sorry been away...thanks so much for the replies. In the end I got in touch with Suzuki Performance who have a set of good donor cams with decent journals. They then reface the cam lobes and give them a stage one profile (anyone know what this means) I have been assured the profiles aren't so radical as to need heavy duty springs. The strange thing is the bike ran fine, I only removed the head to have the valve guides replaced.

Well received my new cams today from Suzuki Performance Spares and must say the quality is superb. The journals look new and the cam lobes, very pleased. Now just got to get the bugger back together...cant wait.

As I said before if the cams were worn then the rockers will be too. Fit the new cams with worn rockers & you will be doing the job again pretty soon.

The strange thing is there was no real discernible wear on the lobes just the journals were goosed.

If the camshaft journals were worn then the head must be knackered too ?
